36 Conference Championships - 21 Regular Season, 15 Tournament TERRIERS AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES

When hockey fans think of the Olympic Games and Boston Universi- ty’s involvement, their thoughts automatically turn to 1980 and Lake Placid, N.Y., where four former Terriers served as catalysts for the U.S. “” team that won the gold medal. The memory of , , Jack O’Callahan and embracing each oth- er after the gold medal game will forever be engraved in our memories. However, Terriers have been involved in Olympic hockey competition dating back to 1936. While Jesse Owens was drawing international attention on the track, two former Terriers were winning a bronze medal in hockey. Below is a list of former Terriers who were involved in Olympic com- petition, including those who participated for the Canadian, Japanese, Dutch and Italian Olympic Teams. Five former hockey players have earned one of the highest honors an athlete can receive — an Olympic gold medal. The first Terrier who was on a U.S. Olympic gold medal-winning hockey team was Dick Rodenhiser. Rodenhiser, who won a silver medal in Cortina, Italy, in 1956, came back to win the gold in Squaw Valley, Calif., in 1960. Twenty years later, in 1980, “The BU Four” helped to make history in Lake Placid. Pictured right: With the flag as a backdrop, medals from the U.S.’ two gold medal-winning teams.
