Seth Thibodeaux Head Coach Second Season

The Colonels fi nished just three wins shy of their fi rst 30-win season since 1993. Thibodeaux joined the Colonel program in 2008 and began retooling Nicholls offensive efforts. In his fi rst season at Nicholls, Thibodeaux put together one of the most aggressive lineups in the Southland Conference, as Nicholls led the league in triples (27) and fi nished second in stolen bases (81). In 2009, the Colonels nearly doubled their overall and conference win totals, and Nicholls outfi elder Chris Murrill (recruited and coached by Thibodeaux) became the fi rst Colonel position player in four years to be selected in the First Year Player Draft. Thibodeaux has also helped the Colonels rebuild their program off the fi eld by overseeing the team’s NCAA academic and compliance efforts. In 2006, the Colonels’ APR score was just 835. By 2010, the Colonels surpassed the NCAA’s APR threshold of 925 for the fi rst time in school history. Before coming to Nicholls in 2008, Thibodeaux served two years as an assistant coach at fellow Southland Conference school Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, helping put together two recruiting classes that received national recognition from Baseball America. In his fi nal season in Hammond, Thibodeaux helped Southeastern to 34 wins, the Lions most in a decade, and a then-school record 16 wins in Southland Conference competition. Thibodeaux began his college coaching career at Pearl River Community College in 2003. In his second season at PRCC, Thibodeaux helped the Wildcats to conference and state championship titles as well as a No. 2 national ranking in 2004. In 2005, Thibodeaux helped PRCC repeat as conference champs. Thibodeaux played two seasons at LSU-Eunice in 2000 before transferring to William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Miss., where he fi nished his college playing career and earned his degree in physical education. After graduation, Thibodeaux played one season of for the Baton Rouge Riverbats of the independent South East Professional Baseball League. Thibodeaux is married to Janelle Thibodeaux (formerly Austrom) who was a soccer and softball player at William Carey College. One of eight children, Thibodeaux has a brother Mike who is the head baseball coach at Teurlings Catholic High School in Lafayette, La.

Rudy Darrow Assistant Coach Second Season

udy Darrow returned to the Nicholls baseball program prior to the 2011 season after spending four years Ras a professional pitcher in the ’ and ’ organizations. Darrow is the pitching coach as well as overseeing fi eld and facility maintenance projects. After graduating from Nicholls in 2006, Darrow was selected in the 32nd round of the MLB First Year Player Draft by the Detroit Tigers. After three seasons as a Tiger farmhand, Darrow was traded to the Atlanta Braves’ organization prior to the start of the 2009 season. In four professional minor league seasons, Darrow compiled a 14-7 record with a 3.70 ERA (60 ER/140.0 IP). His best statistical season came in 2008 when, with the Tigers’ organization, Darrow split time between the West Michigan Whitecaps and Class AA Erie SeaWolves. The Perkins, Okla. native went 5-3 with a 1.90 ERA (14 ER/66.1 IP). Prior to his professional career, Darrow pitched for the Colonels from 2004-2006. In his senior season, Darrow compiled a 1-3 record with a 4.43 ERA (10 ER/20.1 IP) while recording a team-high 20 appearances out of the Nicholls bullpen. Prior to Nicholls, Darrow wrestled and played baseball at Labette Community College in Oklahoma from 2002-2004.

Walt Jones Volunteer Assistant Coach Third Season

alter Jones enters his third year with the Colonels as he transitions to his fi rst year as the volunteer Wassistant coach for the 2012 Colonels. He will be responsible for coaching outfi elders and assisting with hitters as well as coordinating camps under second year head coach Seth Thibodeaux. After graduating from Nicholls in 2008, Jones was named the Nicholls Athletics graduate assistant before becoming the Colonel Club graduate assistant, serving a year for each. In 2009, Jones was named the Director of Baseball Operations and was responsible for assisting in all aspects of baseball operations. Jones played baseball at Nicholls under the direction of Chip Durham and served as a two-year starter and lead-off hitter. Prior to Nicholls, Jones played baseball at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College and football at The University of North Alabama.

Macky Waguespack Strength Coach First Season

acky Waguespack begins his fi rst season with the Colonels Mserving as the strength coach. He is responsible for overseeing the strength and conditioning of the baseball program. Waguespack played baseball at Southeastern Louisiana University from 1995-1999 and was selected First Team All-American in 1999 by Baseball Weekly and the College Baseball Coaches Association. He currently holds the all time Southland Conference record for homeruns in a career. Waguespack went on to play Independent Professional Baseball over four years before becoming the head baseball coach at East St. John High School from 2001-2005. From there, Waguespack became the assistant baseball and football coach at St. Charles Catholic High School from 2007-2010. He coached his team in three state championships. Kevin Schlegel Director of Baseball Operations First Season

evin Schlegel joins the Nicholls baseball staff as the Director of Baseball Operations after serving as the Kvolunteer assistant coach for the Colonel Softball team and catching two years at Nicholls. Schlegel will be responsible for overseeing fi eld maintenance and day-to-day baseball operations. For his career at Nicholls, Schlegel hit .230 with a home run and 33 RBI. Behind the plate, he threw out 13 base runners while only committing four errors. Before coming to Thibodaux, Schlegel lettered two years at Northeast Texas Community College where he was selected to the Texas/New Mexico Coaches All-Star Game in 2007. Schlegel, a native of Oklahoma City, graduated from Putnam City North High School.

Joe Lasco Equipment Manager First Season

oe Lasco enters his fi rst year as a baseball equipment manager Jin 2011. Lasco will aid with the day-to-day needs of the coaches and players, along with assisting with practice, game day and travel arrangements.
