  • THIRD BRANCH CONFERENCE______Washington, D.C
THIRD BRANCH CONFERENCE_____________ Washington, D.C. June 2, 2009 The Honorable Mitch McConnell The Honorable Jon Kyl The Honorable Jeff Sessions The Honorable John Cornyn The Honorable John Thune and copied to all Minority Senators. United States Senate Washington, DC Re: Debating the Supreme Court Nomination Dear Senators: Senator Sessions recently published a fine column offering his advice to the President on the qualities that should define a Supreme Court nominee. Senator Sessions respectfully explained what he expected of the President. Now that the President has made his nomination, it is up to the Senate to give the President “advice and consent.” With like respect, and as the petitioners for millions of Americans, we write to express what we expect of you as leaders of the Senate Minority on a matter of the greatest concern to us – the confirmation process of the President’s nominee to the Supreme Court. In fact, we expect the same of the Majority in mirrored fashion. We assume that Senators and staffs of the Committee on the Judiciary will do all that they can to illuminate the issues that under-gird a Supreme Court nomination. We hope that the time between nomination and hearings, and between hearings and a confirmation debate will be ample enough to alert the American people to the impact of the matter at hand, and comparable to previous nominations reviewed during times that Democrats controlled the Senate. We say this to point out that the effort from you that we request is not at all limited to the walls of the Senate Judiciary Committee or its work, or to issues of procedure and timing.

  • 'Evangelical Manifesto'?
http://www.onenewsnow.com/Perspectives/Default.aspx?id=76376 Whose 'Evangelical Manifesto'? Warren Smith - Guest Columnist - 4/17/2008 6:00:00 AM If all goes according to plan, on or about May 7, a group of evangelical leaders -- including the Rev. Rick Warren (of Saddleback Church and "Purpose Driven Life" fame) and Leith Anderson, president of the National Association of Evangelicals -- will publish a document to be called "An Evangelical Manifesto: The Washington Declaration of Identity and Public Commitment." Though the document has been circulating around the Internet for a month, it has been "embargoed." For purposes of our discussion here, I will honor the embargo and not delve here into the contents except to say this: it contains, like other documents of this kind, both virtues and flaws. It's better than most, worse than some. But the contents are not my main concern here: In the end, I fear that the contents, however worthy, will be overshadowed by the process of its writing and gathering signatories for it. Os Guinness, one of the "Manifesto's" primary authors, told me that a "representative group" has been asked to sign it, and that "scores of people have given input." In defense of his assertion, I will say that in my investigating, I have determined that, in addition to Warren and Anderson, theologians Timothy George and Richard Mouw have been a part of the drafting process. Jesse Miranda, Richard Ohman, and John Huffman also reportedly had a hand. The involvement of long-time Billy Graham PR guru Larry Ross suggests that Graham might end up a signatory.

  • Military Culture Coalition
Military Culture Coalition MCC Releases Results of 2012 Presidential Candidate Survey Conservative Candidates Perry, Bachmann, Santorum Provide Solid Answers Romney, Gingrich, Huntsman Fail to Answer Six Questions on Military/Social Issues Ron Paul Voted for Gays in the Military December 6, 2011 Contact: Elaine Donnelly, 734/464-9430 [email protected] The Military Culture Coalition has released responses to the MCC 2012 Presidential Candidate Survey, which asked six questions about military social issues such as gays in the military, enforcement of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in the military, religious liberty for chaplains, and subjecting women to direct ground combat and Selective Service registration.. Center for Military Readiness President Elaine Donnelly coordinated the non-partisan MCC Presidential Survey together with fourteen other conservative organization leaders whose names and signatures are provided below. Donnelly predicted that results could be pivotal with conservative voters in the early voting states. "Undecided voters in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina will want to take into consideration the answers of candidates Perry, Bachmann, and Santorum, which provide insight into their views on national defense and social issues." She added, "Now that this educational survey is complete, we hope that voters will take it from here, asking the same questions of candidates Romney, Gingrich, Paul, and Huntsman. All of the candidates should be willing to answer questions on six issues that are important to military men and women, who are losing confidence in the current Commander-in-Chief." Texas Governor Rick Perry and former Senator Rick Santorum indicated in their answers that they would have joined Congresswoman Michele Bachmann in voting against the repeal of the 1993 law regarding gays in the military, which was rammed through the lame-duck session in December 2010.

  • The Fight to Preserve Marriage” a Panel Discussion May 16, 2015
COUNCIL FOR NATIONAL POLICY “The Fight to Preserve Marriage” A Panel Discussion May 16, 2015 MR. WILLIAM WALTON: We have Cathy and Rick and Ryan and Kelly up here. Except for the fact that my marriage is a happy one, I’m not a subject matter expert and we are going to leave these experts to talk to you about the issues that we are fighting for. First, before I provide the full introductions for the panel, I’d like to share some thoughts that I think are related to the issue of marriage. I volunteered to chair this panel on marriage because of the change of heart I have experienced within the last 5 years. Today I understand how vital cultural issues are to our society and our economy. I didn’t always feel that way. Most of my career has been spent in business and on Wall Street and I was among the first to attend the Charles Koch seminars. In 2010, I lead a group of donors and political activists and we wrote something called the 2010 Commitment to America. It was a 10 points pledge specifying what we wanted the Republican running for Congress to do if they were elected and to get our support. Looking back, it was a pretty strong set of demands – cut the spending back to the 2000 levels, pass a balance budget amendment, repeal Obamacare. Why, we even demanded that the politicians obey the same laws that we have to obey. Our pledge, though, was focused entirely on legislative and economic issues.

Crusading Against the Courts The New Mission to Weaken the Role of the Courts in Protecting Our Religious Liberties Written by Bert Brandenburg and Amy Kay Crusading Against the Courts The New Mission to Weaken the Role of the Courts in Protecting Our Religious Liberties Justice at Stake is a nonpartisan national campaign of more than 45 partners working to keep our courts fair, impartial and independent. Justice at Stake Campaign partners educate the public and work for reforms to keep politics and special interests out of the courtroom—so judges can do their job protecting our Constitution, our rights and the rule of law. The positions and policies of Justice at Stake partners are their own, and do not necessarily reflect those of other campaign partners. The Campaign’s Bola Omisore provided research support for this report. Publication of this report was supported by a grant from the Open Society Institute. Justice at Stake’s work is also supported by grants from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Joyce Foundation, and the Moriah Fund. Written by Bert Brandenburg and Amy Kay Crusading Against the Courts The New Mission to Weaken the Role of the Courts in Protecting Our Religious Liberties I. Introduction For more than two centuries, America has shown the world how a constitutional democracy can support faith and freedom. Helping both to thrive will never be simple. Religion by its nature often deals in profound faith and personal absolutes. Political society seeks to accommodate difference and diversity. A democracy could attempt to echo the religious beliefs of the majority, but America’s founders chose a different course.

  • A Call to Repentance & Awakening
A Call to Repentance & Awakening An Open Letter to Christian pastors, leaders and activists who assist the ‘Progressive’ movement in America October 31, 2020 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation… (2 Corinthians 7:10 NIV) Tip: To help substantiate claims in the letter, please click on links. See the Gospel Guard portal emerging on www.AmericanEvangelicals.org. We seek to substantiate concerns with data. Surely we are not without error as this is a complex story and we are learning. We invite corrections and information. May this help to renew the Church, and thus the nation. Our prayer is for gospel truth, awakening and revival. Preface: Jesus invites each of us to turn to him, in new ways. As we do, our nation will be restored. We, evangelical, Protestant and Catholic (all Christian) signatories below, know we are sinners saved by the atoning death of Jesus Christ. And, at times, believers who normally turn the other cheek are also called to overturn tables. This is a moment for such believers to speak truth to power. We first raised a “Call to Repentance & Renewal” in 2016. We now see more concerning emergence of “faith leaders” promoting policies and politicians who advance human harms of abortion, threats of unjustly “stacking” our Supreme Court, drug and “sex worker” legalization, open borders, mass amnesty and voter fraud that would end America as a free republic. These projects would “fundamentally transform” our nation into the kind of dystopian “open society” and “permanent progressive majority” that our Founders urged and entrusted us to prevent.
