Relax and settle into your hotel for the night. Day 2: Explore Calcutta through her historic architecture, bustling markets, local gastronomy and interesting local residents. Enjoy a cup of masala chai from a local street“dhaba”, a traditional Bengali lunch and a delicious high tea while cruising Hooghly at sunset. Day 3: Visit the Glenburn Fine Tea headquarters and the oldest Tea Auction center and offices of the famous tea brokering firm – J Thomas, where we will witness a live auction, taste a range of teas and a traditional Anglo-Indian lunch in their historic board room. Day 4 & 5: Fly to Jorhat and drive to Kaziranga wildlife sanctuary, a World Heritage Site, famous for tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer, and a huge variety of bird life. Enjoy a jeep safari through the park, and an evening cultural show. As dawn breaks the next morning, ride an elephant and get close to the famous one-horned rhinos. Drive to Jorhat and immerse yourself in the Tea Research Institute, expanding your knowledge with interactions with the scientific team. Day 6 & 7: Spend two days at Khongea Tea Estate exploring the tea fields, the tea factory and local villages. Visit the schools, hospitals, temples and get to know the community that nurtures our tea bushes, picks the harvest and manufactures these leaves into our famous teas. Explore the different varieties of plants in our tea nursery and learn about our planting practices, plucking and pruning methods. Follow the manufacturing process from withering to fermentation, right up to the final product - CTC and orthodox tea. Take part in a tasting session with a tea expert. In the evening, enjoy a local Bihu dance cultural program and interact with our management team, asking all the questions you like! Day 8: Leave for Dibrugarh to catch your flight to Bagdogra, followed by a 3 hour drive to Glenburn Tea Estate in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. Arrive in the early evening and settle into your suite in our colonial-style bungalows and gear up for an exciting few days here. Day 9: Explore your 1,600 acre private estate with an introduction to the specialized art of growing and crafting Glenburn Tea which is very different to what you would have seen at Khongea. Visit the tea fields, interact with the tea pickers and follow the journey of “two leaves and bud” into the tea factory, ending with a tea tasting session. Discover the incredible variety of flavors and aromas that come from a single bush through the different seasons in this special region called Darjeeling that has GI (Geographical Indication) status due to its unique location and terroir. Day 10: Spend a day in Darjeeling Town - ride the historic “toy train” established in 1879 and now a World Heritage Site, visit the famous Ghoom Monastery, the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, the Tibetan Refugee Centre, and stroll down the bustling Mall and Chowrasta. Day 11: Visit our local primary school and interact with the children during assembly. Take a two hour hike down to our Glenburn Camp- site with a barbecue lunch and relax on the rocks by the River Rangeet. Options for other hikes are also available. Alternatively, enjoy some down time on one of our peaceful verandas or reach out to our local tea expert team to delve even deeper into our fascinating world of tea! Day 12: Morning departure after breakfast to Bagdogra airport to connect to your international flights. This itinerary is subject to change due to seasonal variations and availability of certain activities.
