  • Will Justify Win the Triple Crown?
Will there be a Triple Crown Winner this year? Mike E. Smith on Justify, Kentucky Derby On May 5, Justify won the Kentucky Derby. There are 2 more thoroughbred horse races that he has to enter and win in order to win the Triple Crown of thoroughbred Racing ... the Preakness and the Belmont. Can he do it? What are his chances? The three races that make up the Triple Crown are the (1) Kentucky Derby, the (2) Preakness Stakes, and the (3) Belmont Stakes. Kentucky Derby races began in 1875; Preakness races began in 1870; and the Belmont began in 1867. But in all of those years since these races began only 12 horses have won all three. Sir Barton won. 1. How many years have elapsed between 1919 and now? There are different ways to look at what might be the most usual gap between winners. We could figure out the gap that occurs most often (mode); or what the mean number of years of a gap is; or what is the most central measurement (median) of the various gaps.

The Legacy and Traditions of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby The Kentucky Derby The Kentucky Derby has taken place annually in Louis- ville, Kentucky since 1875. It was started by Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr. at his track he called Churchill Downs, and it has run continuously since that first race. This first jewel of the Triple Crown has produced famous winners, with thirteen of these winners gaining that Triple Crown title. Lewis limited the Derby to only 3-year old horses. The race has evolved and grown over time and has changed since its first running, remaining an important event for more than a century. American Pharoah: Just one of the Triple Crown winners you’ll find floating down the Mississippi Written by: Amanda Duckworth March 19, 2018 The 120-foot long American Pharoah is the largest of the Turn Services New Orleans fleet. Photos: Turn Services Anyone in New Orleans for the Louisiana Derby should keep an eye out on the riv- er for American Pharoah. Not THE American Pharoah, of course, but rather M/V American Pharoah, one of about two dozen tow boats named after famous race- horses that make up Turn Services’ fleet. While it might be unexpected to see the likes of Secretariat and Seattle Slew floating down the Mississippi River, Turn Services was founded in 1990 and is one of the largest independent fleeting and shifting compa- nies in the United States. The company’s current chairman, David Fennelly, was born in Ireland, and when he came to the United States to make his way in the world, he started as a groom at Spendthrift Farm. “He decided to try to make the American Dream happen, and he moved to Lexington to become a farm hand,” said Mario Muñoz, the president of Turn Services. “Mucking stalls and doing whatever he could do, that was his first foray into business here. He came to the U.S. with about $400 in his pocket, got a job at Spendthrift, and the rest is history. He’s always loved horses.” 1 The Native Dancer: “There are a lot of great horses from the past that have captured the hearts and minds of the world when they were racing, and we try to honor them,” says Turn Services president Mario Muñoz.
