General Information for Jamboree:

1. Style of Camping: Troops will be camping Jamboree style on designated assigned open field space. Emphasis will be on the PATROL METHOD with patrols set up in separate space within the troop site. 2. Check‐in: Plan to arrive on Friday, October 7th, during the hours of 5:30‐8:00 PM. Whoever arrives from the unit first should be prepared to handle the units registration process, which includes receiving a campsite assignment. Location: 2055 Moore Town Road, Rocky Point, NC 28457 3. Registration: The registration form included in this packet should be filled out in advance and a copy presented when you check in your troop. Having it completed prior to arrival will greatly reduce the time it takes to register. Every scout and adult who is camping overnight MUST be registered on the form. 4. SPL/Unit Leader Meeting: There will be a MANDATORY information meeting at 9:00PM on Friday evening at HQ. The Unit SPL (or acting youth unit leader) and Scoutmaster (or acting adult unit leader) should attend. All units must be represented at this meeting. The final schedule of events, checkout procedure information, and other important information will be distributed at this meeting. 5. Fees: The fee is $10 per Scout and $10 per Adult. Please bring a single troop check for the total amount owed. Please make check payable to “Cape Fear Council, BSA.” 6. Patches: Jamboree patches will be distributed to Scoutmasters at the awards ceremony Sunday morning. 7. Tour Permit: Tour permit is required and must be presented at check-in. 8. Medical Records: Each troop should bring their health and medical record forms for all Scouts that are attending the Camporee. These records should remain in the possession of the Scoutmaster. The Scoutmaster must verify that the medicals are in his possession at check-in. 9. Uniforms: Full Scout uniforms (Class A) are to be worn at general assemblies, campfire and worship. Activity uniforms (Class B) consisting of Scout pants or shorts, Scout socks and belt, and a troop T-shirt (or some Scouting tee‐shirt) must be worn at all other times. 10. Cooking: Liquid fuel and compressed gas stoves may be used in accordance with B.S.A. policy. Scoutmasters are responsible for storage of liquid fuel in the campsite area. Charcoal may be used if fire is above ground. 11. Water: Potable water will be provided by the Jamboree staff for the event but use is sparingly. 12. Garbage: A large dumpster is available to dispose of our garbage. 13. Menu and Duty Roster: Each patrol should have its MENU and DUTY roster posted. These should be posted and legible for camp inspection. 14. Jamboree Patrol Activities: Eight events are presented to test the First Class Skills of patrols on Saturday. 15. Competition Areas: Separate areas will be laid out for each of the events. During Friday evening’s SPL/Unit Leader meeting patrols will be assigned a starting station for Saturday’s activities and circulate through the events until they have completed all events. Patrol Score Cards are due at HQ at 5:15pm Saturday. 16. Midway: Midway events are presented for fun and educational purposes. Please enjoy and participate in these displays. Thanks to Klahican Lodge 331, for their sponsorship of the Midway. 17. Campsite Inspections: All patrols in the troop must be judged. 18. Judging and Recognitions: Points will be awarded for action events, campsite inspections, and bonus participation activities. Awards will be presented at Saturday evening campfire. 19. Visitors: All visitors should check-in at HQ prior to visiting the Camporee grounds 20. Camp Departure: Camporee check‐out procedures will be provided at the SPL/Unit Leader Meeting Before you depart. All units are expected to follow the same guidelines of leaving their site clean, taking out trash, and checking out with the proper Camporee Staff before departure. All Units must be out of the Camporee site by 11:00AM on Sunday.

HEALTH AND SAFETY:

Emergency Medical Care: While you are attending the one hundredth anniversary camporee, all reasonable precautions for the safety of Scouts and Leaders will be taken. Roving Emergency Medical Technicians are available throughout the event and local EMS units are aware of the event as well. TROOPS SHOULD ALSO PROVIDE A TROOP FIRST AID KIT FOR MINOR INJURIES THAT MIGHT OCCUR IN THEIR CAMPSITES. Personal Health and Medical Record: NO SCOUT OR ADULT WILL BE ADMITTED ON CAMP PROPERTY WITHOUT A MEDICAL FORM. All SCOUTS and ADULTS must have a completed (PARTS A and B) ANNUAL HEALTH FORM. Emergency Procedures In the event of an emergency during this event, you will hear three cycles of three long air horn blasts, which means all scouts and leaders should assemble at the flag poles in parade formation.  Fire in Camp o During a fire emergency, the following steps are taken: . The person discovering the fire should alert any person in immediate danger . Immediately notify staff in the nearest Program Area or Camp Office . Alert procedures will be initiated . Staff will notify local fire department . Upon hearing the siren, all persons in Camp will proceed to the camporee flag pole area and line up by troop. . Attendance will be taken. . All Scouts are to remain in the area until directed otherwise. . Staff will issue all orders and directions concerning the emergency.

 Lost Scout: o If a Scout is not accounted for, the following procedures are to be followed immediately: . Report missing Scout to the Camporee Office . Staff will begin an immediate search of campsites, and program areas . If search is unsuccessful, alert procedures will be initiated . Troops will assemble at the camporee flag pole area and line up by troop . Attendance will be taken . Staff will issue appropriate instructions and contact local emergency personnel

o Severe Weather Event: High winds, hail, tornado, and/or severe thunderstorms . Adult leaders should always keep appraised of current weather situations and forecasts. . Camporee staff will determine the safest place for the Scouts, Leaders and Staff members depending on the severity of the weather. . This information will be relayed to the troops through the most expeditious means. . In the event that the Scouts and Leaders need to be assembled, the alert procedure will be initiated.

ESTIMATING HEIGHT

Each Patrol shall be given the opportunity to estimate the height of a vertical object using the pencil method as descried and illustrated in the . Patrols shall submit one estimate to the Judge as their answer of the object height. Scoring shall be as follows: Scoring: Exact height estimate: 21 points Estimate within 2 feet: 20 points Estimate within 4 feet: 18 points Estimate within 6 feet: 15 points Estimate within 8 feet: 10 points All other estimates: 5 points

KNOTS

The patrol will select 5 members to each tie the knots listed below. Square Knot Bowline Two Half Hitches Taut-line Hitch Clove Hitch Scoring: All knots tied correctly: 25 points or 5 points per correct know 2 points will deducted for each incorrect knot tied

LEAVE NO TRACE CAMPING

Each Patrol will have the opportunity to demonstrate its knowledge and understanding of the Principles of Leave No Trace Camping. Scoring: Each principle correctly stated is worth five points. Max. 35 points.

FIRST AID – HURRY CASES

Each Patrol will be tested on four “hurry cases”. Scoring: 5 points earned for correct treatment of each “hurry case”. Max 20 points.

FIRST AID – OTHER

Demonstrate the 4 hand carry. Demonstrate the 2 man carry. Demonstrate how to make a stretcher with staves and blanket. Describe how to treat person on fire. How do you treat a nose bleed? Scoring: 5 points for each correct demonstration Max 25 points.

WOOD LORE

Each Patrol will be presented with a section of the following trees to identify by bark: Pine Hickory Dogwood Oak Poplar Sweet Gum Scoring: 5 points will be awarded for each correct identification. Max. 25 points.

KIM’S GAME

The Patrol will be presented with 25 items to test their observation skills and teamwork. They will have two minutes to observe the items. Scoring: One point for each item identified. Five bonus points if all items are identified. Max. 25 points.

LASHING

The patrol will be challenged to tie the following lashings. Round lashing Square lashing Diagonal lashing Tripod lashing Lashing must be started and stopped correctly. Scoring: Five points awarded for each correct lashing. One point deducted for each incorrect knot used to start or stop the lashing. Max. 20 points.
