INFORMATIONEN George Jones hatte gerade erfolgreich seinen Vertrag bei Mercury Records erfüllt, als ihn sein Produzent Pappy Daily 1962 bei United Artists unterbrachte. Jones wurde sofort der Top-Country-Star seines neuen Labels und legte mit Dickey Lee's Ballade She Thinks I Still Care einen fulminanten Start hin – damals gewann er Preise damit, inzwischen ist die Aufnahme ein Standard der Country Music. In den folgenden zweieinhalb Jahren nahm Jones viele Eigenkompositionen auf, aber außerdem Titel, die von Nashville-Koryphäen geschrieben worden waren, darunter Not What I Had In Mind von Jack Clement, Big Fool Of The Year von Justin Tubb, You Comb Her Hair von Hank Cochran und Harlan Howard und My Tears Are Overdue von Freddie Hart. Schon damals orientierten sich viele von Jones' Zeitgenossen an dessen sich immer weiter entwickelndem Gesangsstil, dem Nonplusultra – Jones selbst bewunderte Roy Acuff und Hank Williams. Während seiner Jahre bei United Artists vervollkommente er diesen Stil permanent; zur gleichen Zeit jedoch erweiterte er seinen eigenen musikalischen Horizont, indem er zusammen mit Melba Montgomery aufnahm. Gemeinsam schufen sie einen aufregende, geradezu hypnotische gesangliche Kooperation auf Hits wie We Must Have Been Out Of Our Mind s; noch heute ist für Jones diese Zusammenarbeit die beste, die er jemals mit einer Sängerin hatte. It may very well be the last as well, but as I used to say in my previous career “nothing is certain on the waterfront” and nothing is certain here as well. It has been just shy of 19 years and it doesn’t get easier. It is like the old adage “between a rock and a hard place” in that there have never been a better lot of artists than there are now: Dale Watson, Justin Trevino, Amber Digby, Ron Williams etc yet the major label music scene is, for a lack of a better word stuffed. Yet some people are impossible to convince. Some people refuse to take anything but the CMT route. It wouldn’t matter if I said Ron Williams’ is the best cd I have had this year and is right up there with the best ever of Mark Chesnutt, Keith Whitley and co. If you watch CMT and enjoy it then I will sell you a share in the Sydney Harbour Bridge. If you watch it and question its merit we have the answers for you. The word “Gospel” is commonly defined today as “good news” - and that it is! However, according to some accounts, in pre-New Testament times it was used to denote the reward given to the bearer of good news. In the New Testament it denotes the announcement of, and the recording of good news. There is a difference between an event and the account of the event. To Luke, the Gospel is, first and foremost, what God did through Jesus Christ, and then the continuation of what He did through His church (see the Book of Acts). The Gospel According to Luke and the Book of Acts form a unit and need to be studied together for maximum benefit. It should be remembered that this is not the Gospel of Luke - it is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, according to Luke. AUTHORSHIP. All evidence points to the fact that Luke, the Gentile physician and trusted friend and co-worker of Paul, was the author of both the Gospel According to Luke and the Book of Acts. Scholarship and tradition both support this claim. Luke wrote about one-fourth of all the Scripture in the New Testament, and the book that bears his name has been ranked by many among the most beautiful books ever written.
