14-15 October 2019 Old Billingsgate, London From Uncertainty to Prosperity? + CONFERENCES & EVENTS PROGRAMME 14-15 OCTOBER 2019 OLD BILLINGSGATE, LONDON www.mipimuk.co.uk Engaging The Future 1 + 14-15 OCTOBER 2019 OLD BILLINGSGATE, LONDON + THE PRIME MINISTER Whether it’s the houses and flats we call home, the workplaces in which we earn a crust, the shops and leisure facilities where we splash our hard- earned cash or the transport infrastructure that allows us to glide seamlessly between them all, the built environment is an inescapable and vital part of all our lives. That’s why MIPIM UK is such an important part of the British business calendar – bringing together the architects, developers, builders, financiers and policymakers who are shaping the world around us so that we can all benefit. This year’s event – the sixth time the UK has hosted its very own MIPIM – comes at a particularly opportune time for the real estate industry. Because, as we prepare to leave the European Union later this month, I want to unleash the productive power of every city, town, village and hamlet in the United Kingdom, and to do that I need your help. I need you to help us build homes, railways, stations, digital infrastructure and more besides, levelling up communities right across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, giving everyone in this country access to the kind of infrastructure they need in order to thrive and to grow. That’s why I’ve already pledged £3.6 billion to support more than 100 towns across the country, confirmed that we will fund the Northern Powerhouse Rail link between Leeds and Manchester, and set out plans to bring gigabit broadband to homes in every corner of the land. But it not just enough to provide funding, I also want these places to have more power for themselves in making important local decisions. That is why council leaders and communities will be given greater powers similar to those already enjoyed in London and Manchester. This gives you as investors and business leaders confidence that key decisions will not get held up at a national level - you can get to work with your local partners straight away. So, as we embark upon our post-Brexit future – a future bursting with potential – events like this have a huge role to play in showing investors from around the world the kind of exciting opportunities on offer here in the UK. Despite the naysayers we are still the number one destination for investment in Europe, and there has never been a better time to join in. We are ready to do business with you, and to build the future of the UK together. Enjoy the conference. www.mipimuk.co.uk October 2019 2 2 SPECIAL EVENT FEATURES Monday 14 October + MIPIM UK Summit - Building Tours + Special Government Event - By invitation only 10.00 As part of MIPIM UK Summit we’re pleased to announce four City of London building tours available 07.30 Organised in conjunction with the Department for International Trade exclusively to delegates on the morning of Monday 14th October. • Proptech 3.0: the Future of Real Estate
University of Oxford Research PropTech 3.0: the future of real estate PROPTECH 3.0: THE FUTURE OF REAL ESTATE WWW.SBS.OXFORD.EDU PROPTECH 3.0: THE FUTURE OF REAL ESTATE PropTech 3.0: the future of real estate Right now, thousands of extremely clever people backed by billions of dollars of often expert investment are working very hard to change the way real estate is traded, used and operated. It would be surprising, to say the least, if this burst of activity – let’s call it PropTech 2.0 - does not lead to some significant change. No doubt many PropTech firms will fail and a lot of money will be lost, but there will be some very successful survivors who will in time have a radical impact on what has been a slow-moving, conservative industry. How, and where, will this happen? Underlying this huge capitalist and social endeavour is a clash of generations. Many of the startups are driven by, and aimed at, millennials, but they often look to babyboomers for money - and sometimes for advice. PropTech 2.0 is also engineering a much-needed boost to property market diversity. Unlike many traditional real estate businesses, PropTech is attracting a diversified pool of talent that has a strong female component, representation from different regions of the world and entrepreneurs from a highly diverse career and education background. Given the difference in background between the establishment and the drivers of the PropTech wave, it is not surprising that there is some disagreement about the level of disruption that PropTech 2.0 will create.

  • 1 Archived BBC Public Responses to Complaints
Archived BBC public responses to complaints 2019 This Week, BBC One, 10 January 2019 Summary of complaint We received complaints from people who felt Owen Jones was treated in a disrespectful manner while appearing as a guest on the programme. Our response Following the verbal abuse which he and others had sustained from protesters outside Parliament, Owen Jones, journalist, left wing commentator and activist, used his “Take of the Week” section to give his personal take on the current state of political discourse, the rise of the far right and, as he deemed, the reasons for this. This is a prominent section of the programme in which the author gives their views unchallenged. During his video and the studio discussion which followed, Mr Jones made allegations about the Conservative Party and right wing media which some would consider contentious. As our audience would expect, Andrew scrutinised what Mr Jones said. Michael Portillo, who disagreed with Mr Jones, also gave his opinion. Mr Jones was given ample time to express his views and respond to points made to him. When Mr Jones made allegations about The Spectator magazine and Andrew’s role with the publication. Andrew legitimately pointed out that this was nothing to do with the BBC and it wasn’t right for Mr Jones to use the programme to make personal accusations against him. Today, BBC Radio 4, 26 January 2019 Summary of complaint We received a range of complaints following the interview of Helen McEntee. Some listeners felt the tone and content were not appropriate, suggesting a personal bias from the interviewer.
