NAMIBIAN ANNUAL MUSIC AWARDS NAMAs ANNOUNCES 2017 NOMINEES Windhoek - The 2017 Namibian Annual Music Awards nominees were announced at NICE restaurant. This year’s nominees are dominated by newcomers bringing a fresh look to the music industry and showing that the industry is growing. Topping the nominee list is newcomer Bradley Anthony who walked away with 8 nominations followed by Oteya with 7 nominations. Newcomer Adora walked away with 6 nominations followed by 2015 Best Male Artist of the Year Gazza with 5 nominations. Newcomer Priscilla Namibian Desert Queen topped 5 nominations. Sally Boss Madam makes a welcoming return to the NAMAs after a 3- year absence with 4 nominations with her single album. Young T, N.I.A. and Michael Pulse all walked away with 4 nominations. The total investment of the 2017 Namibian Annual Music awards is N$17 million with MTC investing N$7 million in cash, other sponsors N$2.1 million and the remaining being NBC’s broadcasting cost. Foreword Foreword 2011 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS Kavango East Regional tables based on 4th Delimitation Basic tables with estimated figures Foreword Foreword The first Population and Housing Census in an independent Namibia was conducted in 1991. Since then, a Census has been undertaken every ten years, and the 2011 Population and Housing Census marks Namibia’s third census since independence in 1990. The Census is demonstrative of the Namibia Statistics Agency’s (NSA) commitment to providing relevant and quality statistics to support decision making, policy formulation and monitoring of development programmes. The regional tables present the results of the 2011 Namibia Population and Housing Census for the Kavango East Region. The regional tables compliment the regional profiles report to accommodate the changes introduced by the 4th Delimitation Commission. The information provided include total population, fertility, mortality, education, labour force and households condition/characteristics for the region and constituencies. Indicators not provided herein, can be provide to users upon request. We are hopeful that the users will find its contents useful for their decision making and planning purposes, including business investments. Land use in Kavango: past, present and future John Mendelsohn RAISON (Research and Information Services of Namibia) February 2009 Summary The report provides an overview of the major uses of land in Kavango, while paying attention to processes that have driven the use of land and its resources in the past and those that are now most significant. The majority of people, the most intense use and greatest pressures on resources are along the Okavango River. Populations have grown rapidly over the past several decades as a result of immigration from Angola. The approximately 28,200 rural households largely use their land for low input-low output farming, but most of their income and food security comes from sources unrelated to agriculture. The government sees the River water as an important source of irrigation water to be harvested before it leaves Namibia, in so doing contributing to the assumption that Kavango can be the breadbasket for Namibia. Urban growth is substantial because increasing numbers of people seek cash wealth which rural livelihoods can not provide, and because a variety of economic activities related to sub-regional trade are based in Rundu and other towns. Communal tenure limits long-term economic development while also encouraging the exploitation of commonage resources. However, over one-third of open communal land is being privatized into about 540 farms allocated to several hundred individuals. Although agriculture – in the form of large-scale irrigation projects for cereals and traditional farming methods – is unlikely to offer useful prospects for future development, more intense cultivation of high-value products has potential.
