November thoughts...

Two holidays always occur during November every year - Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. In the UK and other Commonwealth nations, Veterans Day, HELMAND HALT - HM3 Eric Nobriga halts during a foot also called Remembrance Day, reflects the same sentiment. LCC begins fleet-wide roll-out this month

Center for Personal & Professional Development Public Affairs

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The Center for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) is rolling out Modules 1 and 2 of the Leadership Core Continuum (LCC) this month.

LCC training is designed to meet the continuing process of training and developing enlisted leaders in pay grades E4 through E6.

"CPPD is working diligently on the next stage in enlisted leader development for the Fleet," said LCC Project Manager Senior Chief Petty Officer Samantha Blackwell.

"In 2006," Blackwell said, "CPPD released the replaced Petty Officer Indoctrination with Petty Officer Selectee Leadership Course (POSLC), for newly selected E-4s. "LCC is the foundational link in the Navy's enlisted leadership continuum and is designed to enhance the leadership training our junior enlisted Sailors receive between promotion cycles," said CPPD's Director of Training Cmdr. George Michaels. "LCC is a fleet-relevant, Sailor- centered set of development tools to assist in understanding leadership topics established in Navy Leadership Competency Model, and provides a path for enlisted Sailors to receive continuous leadership training and development."

"The core competencies of LCC include accomplishing missions, leading change, working with people and resource stewardship; all of which are essential in the process of President orders review of Fort Hood prelude engaging our Sailors and capitalizing on previous lessons American Forces Press Service learned through command-delivered courses," said Michaels. The next morning, I met with the leadership of our military and the intelligence community, and ordered them to undertake a full review of the sequence of events that led up to the shootings.

The purpose of this review is clear: We must compile every piece of information that was known about the gunman, and we must learn what was done with that information. Once we have those facts, we must act upon them. If there was a failure to take appropriate action before the shootings, Help there must be accountability. Beyond that – and most importantly – we must more quickly and thoroughly evaluate and address any flaws in the system, so that we can prevent a similar breach from happening again. Careers in Information Technology IT Diversity, Part 2 Story by LtCol. Paul Capicik, USAF (Ret.) American Sentinel University Special to TWS Newsletters

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- With the wide array of possible career paths within the field of Information Technology, it can often be difficult to determine the correct one for you, given your unique interests and career goals. In my last article, part one of this two-part series, I covered the Systems category of Information Technology including who would be best fit to pursue a career in that field and what type of education would best prepare that individual for a successful career. In part two of the series, I will cover the Application Development category of IT.

Application Development Category People often assume that individuals working in Application Development People often assume that individuals working in Application Development Information Technology careers are simply programmers or coders, but there is far more to the field than that. IT offers companies the opportunity to NTWS is a place for all Sailors, living and deceased. You increase efficiency across the board, saving time, manpower and money, can post and maintain Remembrance Profiles for your while increasing customer satisfaction rates at the same time. Typically, Shipmates by clicking on Remember a Shipmate on the automating business and mission processes is the best way to accomplish left-hand side of the Home Page. This allows you to these types of effectiveness and efficiency improvements, with some remember a Fallen, Deceased, MIA/POW, Unlocated examples of specializations in this area including: Sailor/Aviator or to create an Assisted Profile for a living Sailor/Aviator who is unable to post their own profile. • Determining which business processes can be improved with automation • Conducting process reengineering to gain maximum benefits from IT capabilities • Application and database development (programming/coding) • Testing applications and training end users • Maintaining and upgrading applications

While some application development is done by military members, much of this is outsourced to civilian contractors. But again, as with the Systems career path of Information Technology, depending on the size and needs of the organization you work for, you could find yourself working on all of these tasks at the same time.

College courses and degree programs provide the “foundation” necessary for developing the abilities needed to pursue (and succeed!) in a specialized Information Technology career. Certifications are also an option as a sort of “quick fix,” normally used to quickly get you up-to-speed in a particular specialization.

REMEMBERING OUR FALLEN SHIPMATES NTWS Member adopts fallen Sailor, begins knowledge quest

EDITOR'S NOTE: Our TWS Admin staff recently received an email from a member who adopted the profile of fallen Sailor, Hospitalman Thomas Welker. His quest for background information on the fallen Shipmate is inspiring and we are proud to present this to our readers.

Admiral Holloway masterfully tells his story as a young gunnery officer on board the USS Bennion in the Battle of Surigao Strait. He recalls a very brief but significant slice of his illustrious military career when he personally launched five torpedoes at the powerful Japanese Yamashiro.

Holloway's dignified narrative concludes by stating that this historic WWII naval confrontation was "the battle that broke the back of the Japanese Navy."
