    Actors' Stories are a SAG Awards® Tradition When the first Screen Actors Guild Awards® were presented on March 8, 1995, the ceremony opened with a speech by Angela Lansbury introducing the concept behind the SAG Awards and the Actor® statuette. During her remarks she shared a little of her own history as a performer: "I've been Elizabeth Taylor's sister, Spencer Tracy's mistress, Elvis' mother and a singing teapot." She ended by telling the audience of SAG Awards nominees and presenters, "Tonight is dedicated to the art and craft of acting by the people who should know about it: actors. And remember, you're one too!" Over the Years This glimpse into an actor’s life was so well received that it began a tradition of introducing each Screen Actors Guild Awards telecast with a distinguished actor relating a brief anecdote and sharing thoughts about what the art and craft mean on a personal level. For the first eight years of the SAG Awards, just one actor performed that customary opening. For the 9th Annual SAG Awards, however, producer Gloria Fujita O'Brien suggested a twist. She observed it would be more representative of the acting profession as a whole if several actors, drawn from all ages and backgrounds, told shorter versions of their individual journeys. To add more fun and to emphasize the universal truths of being an actor, the producers decided to keep the identities of those storytellers secret until they popped up on camera. An August Lineage Ever since then, the SAG Awards have begun with several of these short tales, typically signing off with his or her name and the evocative line, "I Am an Actor™." So far, audiences have been delighted by 107 of these unique yet quintessential Actors' Stories.

    SHOW BIZ Maria Faisal Everybody Loves Raymond Based on the real-life experiences of Ray Romano, Everybody Loves Raymond, the popular sitcom ran from September 1996 to May 2005. Everybody Loves Raymond, a very popular American sitcom broadcast on CBS, ran from 1996 to 2005. The show revolved around the life of Ray Barone, a News Paper sportswriter from Long Island, his wife, Debra, daughter, Ally, and identical twin sons, Geoffrey and Michael. Ray has imposing parents and a jealous, insecure brother, Robert. They are found most of the time in the living room of Ray. Debra, Ray's wife is sick of this routine that had turned her in to a cranky yelling woman, but tolerates for the love of her husband. Ray’s parents and brother never give Ray or his family a moment of peace. Ray often finds himself in the middle of someone else's problems. He is usually the one blamed for everyone else's troubles. Based on the real-life experiences of Ray Romano, Everybody Loves Raymond premiered on September 13, 1996, on CBS. The series finale was broadcast on May 16, 2005, though old episodes are still rerun on cable network TBS and in daily syndication. The show can be watched Monday to Friday on Rogers channel 35, 835, 47 and 847. But at its core, "All I Wanna Do" is also the story of young women who recognize their own value and potential when their all- female sanctuary becomes threatened by the specter of men. The film was written and directed by Sarah Kernochan, an established screenwriter making her feature directorial debut. For Odie (Gaby Hoffmann), a pretty but moody teenager, being sent to Miss Godard's Prep School for Girls midway through the year is a little bit like being sent to prison. Miss Godard's has all kinds of rules, and a lot is expected of the girls there. But Odie soon discovers that the girls at Miss Godard's also have a lot of fun, and most important, the school is something of a haven where girls can behave, well, just like girls since there are no boys in sight. After a tour of the campus guided by Abby (Rachael Leigh Cook), an uptight, brown- nosing "monitor" on the Self-Government Committee, Odie just wants to cry. But things start looking up when Odie meets her new roommates, Verena (Kirsten Dunst) and Tinka (Monica Keena). Verena is a schemer who likes to break the rules.

    Nominations Announced for the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ceremony will be Simulcast Live on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (PT) LOS ANGELES (Dec. 12, 2012) — Nominees for the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® for outstanding performances in 2012 in five film and eight primetime television categories as well as the SAG Awards honors for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles were announced this morning in Los Angeles at the Pacific Design Center’s SilverScreen Theater in West Hollywood. SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Ned Vaughn introduced Busy Philipps (TBS’ “Cougar Town” and the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® Social Media Ambassador) and Taye Diggs (“Private Practice”) who announced the nominees for this year’s Actors®. SAG Awards® Committee Vice Chair Daryl Anderson and Committee Member Woody Schultz announced the stunt ensemble nominees. The 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® will be simulcast live nationally on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. (ET)/5 p.m. (PT) from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. An encore performance will air immediately following on TNT at 10 p.m. (ET)/7 p.m. (PT). Recipients of the stunt ensemble honors will be announced from the SAG Awards® red carpet during the tntdrama.com and tbs.com live pre-show webcasts, which begin at 6 p.m. (ET)/3 p.m. (PT). Of the top industry accolades presented to performers, only the Screen Actors Guild Awards® are selected solely by actors’ peers in SAG-AFTRA.
