Park Regulations

Welcome to the Park The following is a summary of selected regulations important to most park visitors. Its incomplete form does not relieve persons from abiding by all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. When in doubt, ask park staff for additional information. Have a safe and enjoyable visit!

Fishing Prohibited Activities •Persons from vessels that have brought lobster or •Commercial fi shing speared fi sh into park waters may not enter the water •Spear fi shing except to swim from the designated swim beach on •Taking conch, lobster, or ornamental tropical fi sh Garden Key •Collecting artifacts from land or water •Bait fi sh may be taken by cast net only; the limit is fi ve gallons per vessel Garden Key Areas Closed to Fishing •In almost all cases it is illegal to possess more than •Moat, moat wall, or within 300 feet of moat wall one bag limit of any fi sh species •Vessels moored at the Garden Key Dock •Fishing is prohibited at the Windjammer Wreck site; •Helicopter pad area you must be at least 100 yards away from the wreck- •North and south beaches age to fi sh •Staghorn patch—Garden Key Harbor Rules for Commercial Fishermen •Finger piers south of main dock •Persons in possession of commercially taken fi sh or commercial gear, or who are otherwise engaged Important Reminders in commercial fi shing, may not fi sh within the park. •Fishing for fi n fi sh is permitted with hook and line •The disposal of fi sh remains from commercial gear only activities is prohibited within the park. •All State of saltwater fi shing laws and reg u - la tions concerning licenses, sizes, possessions, and species restrictions apply (except as modifi ed by park regulations)

Boating Anchoring, Docking, and Reminders valves must be secured while your boat is within park •Anchoring is restricted to sand or rubble bot tom waters •Overnight anchoring must be within one nautical •Personal watercraft (jetskis) cannot be used any- mile of the Garden Key Harbor Light where in Dry Tortugas National Park waters •The Garden Key dock is limited to two hours per •All visits are limited to 14 consecutive days and a day per vessel (if conditions permit); under certain total of 30 days per calendar year conditions the dock may not be available for pro- •Garden Key and Bird Key anchorages are no wake longed (two hour) use zones—5 mph limit applies •The Garden Key dock is closed after sunset •Vessels in the Garden Key Harbor may not be an- •The Garden Key dock is reserved for commercial chored west of a line extending from the SW Chan nel ferries from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm marker #12 to the white post located near the west •The Loggerhead Key dock is closed to public use at end of Bush Key all times •No loud generators after 10:00 pm •Use of motorized vessels within 300 hundred feet of moat wall is prohibited •It is illegal to dis charge sewage into park waters. •All heads must be fi tted with Coast Guard ap proved marine sanitation devices. Pets •Pets must be on a leash and under physical control •Owners must remove pet waste from park at all times •Leaving a pet unattended or tied to an object is prohibited Closures and Public and Garden Key Hospital & Use Areas •The fort interior is CLOSED after sunset •CLOSED year round •Pets, food, and drinks are not permitted inside the fort Bush Key •Service and residential areas are closed to all public •Open during daylight hours only use •Closed February through September •The moat is closed to swimming, fishing, and boats East Key Loggerhead Key •Open year round during daylight hours only •Open year round during daylight hours only •All structures are closed to public use

Business Operations Persons conducting any commercial enterprise Activities that require a permit within the park must possess a Business Use Permit •Transportation issued by the park. •Guided activities (snorkeling, sailing, sportfishing, scuba diving, bird watching, or sight seeing) •Any other for-fee service

Camping •Camping is limited to the Garden Key campground •The fee is $3 per person, per night only •Fires are limited to the Garden Key campground •Groups of ten or more require reservations in BBQs (charcoal only—no ground fires are allowed advance anywhere in the park) •All visits are limited to 14 consecutive days and a •TRASH—pack it out, pack it in! total of 30 days per calendar year
