OUTING TO BUCKLERS HARD AND EXBURY GARDENS, HAMPSHIRE. WEDNESDAY, 29TH MAY £37-00. Coach leaves Leave Stag Meadow, St Leonard’s Road, Windsor at 8:00 AM Bucklers Hard https://www.bucklershard.co.uk On the banks of the Beaulieu River, in the heart of the New Forest, stands the village of Buckler’s Hard. which in many ways remains untouched by the passage of time. It was started as a port for trading sugar by John, Montague of Beaulieu and became famous as a centre for ship building during the Napoleonic Wars. During the 19th century, with the development of steam pleasure boats, the River Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard began to benefit from tourism. The Beaulieu River is now a picturesque and unspoilt yacht haven offering permanent and short - term berths and moorings in its marina, while Bucklers Hard provides us with a maritime museum, living history and a picturesque beauty spot. Our visit to Bucklers Hard includes a 60 minute guided tour of the well preserved shipbuilding village and workshops and plenty of time to explore the museum, enjoy a riverside walk and some refreshment in the café. Due to the historic nature and riverside location of Buckler’s Hard, some areas are less accessible to visitors with limited mobility. Please download our Access Statement to see detailed information about the facilities and services we offer to help you plan your visit. Exbury Gardens and Steam Railway https://www.exbury.co.uk/ These gardens, which spread over 200 acres of woodland, were created by Lionel de Rothschild in 1919 and are still lovingly managed by the family today. There are woodland walks, art and sculpture exhibitions and since 2001 a miniature steam railway that follows a scenic route through parts of the gardens previously inaccessible to the public. There are year-round displays of plant colour and Exbury Gardens has established a detailed database of the plants held and maintains an ongoing propagation and development programme. Our visit will include a 30 minute talk about the gardens, a ride round the gardens on the steam train and time for strolling, as well as time for lunch. Accessibility: Our main paths are suitable for wheelchairs and special maps that identify these routes are obtainable at the Visitor Entrance.
