Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District Staff Specialist – Neurology – Permanent Part-Time (0.5 FTE) Applications Close: 8 March 2020

The Neurology Department currently has a part time (0.5FTE) Staff Specialist position available at Wollongong Hospital. We are seeking an experienced Neurologist who has demonstrated/can demonstrate how they have and/or will commit to the delivery of Neurology Service provision and development within the ISLHD. The Staff Specialist will join Neurologists in the Department, oriented in a supportive collegiate environment also incorporating the Neurosurgical Department, Neuropsychiatry service, physicians with specialty expertise in general medicine, and in a broad range of medical specialties.

In addition to providing a high level of care in general Neurology, the successful applicant will be expected to bring to the Department an area of expertise likely to enhance the breadth and depth of services available in the district, and to engage in structured teaching of junior staff. The successful applicant will participate in the on call roster, inpatient care and outpatient services; and will contribute to Medical Grand Rounds and other duties as agreed with the Head of Department.

All members of this Unit participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Wollongong Hospital has a strong affiliation with the (UOW) Medical School and UOW/TWH support Nursing and Allied Health training. As such, further teaching and research opportunities exist through the UOW Graduate School of Medicine.

Wollongong Hospital is the largest of ISLHD's eight hospitals, treating more than 48,000 patients annually. It is a 500+ bed centre which provides both general and specialty medical and surgical services including adult intensive care and coronary care units. The position will be primarily located at Wollongong Hospital and may be varied as agreed between the Neurologist and the Director of Medical Services and as approved via the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC) to other facilities in ISLHD. The ISLHD incorporates a number of hospitals within the region, including Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital and .

Selection Criteria: 1. Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 2. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Neurology and/or equivalent specialist recognition 3. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position. 4. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty. 5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital. 6. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff. 7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. 8. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
