Girl Rising Film Comes To India After a close consultation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a partnership with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Girl Rising film was launched in India in August 2015 as Woh Padhegi, Woh Udegi (She Learns, She Rises) on Star television, which has a network of 450 million viewers across the country and a reach of 100+ countries. The film harnessed the talents of India’s biggest Bollywood stars including Priyanka Chopra, Freida Pinto, Parineeti Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Sushmita Sen, Amitabh Bachchan, Nandita Das, Farhan Akhtar, and Alia Bhatt, all of whom lent their voices to the film. Do you think the human rights situation in s Dasain approaches there are indications that both sides will Nepal has improved or deteriorated in the when things seem most hopeless past one year? observe an unofficial festival truce, but prospects of peace A talks to resolve the conflict are more remote than ever. A purported statement from the Maoists declaring a Dasain-Tihar ceasefire on Tuesday turned out to be a hoax. Rebel spokesman Krishna Bahadur Mahara set the record straight by dashing off an e- statement, but that was followed on Wednesday by another release purportedly signed by Prachanda saying the original statement was correct and action would be taken against Mahara. Analysts do not rule out the possibility of army disinformation at work, and see signs of a rift in the Maoist hierarchy following the groups plenum in Dang last month which reportedly rejected peace talks for now. The meeting was followed by strident anti-Indian rhetoric and an intriguing silence on the part of Baburam Bhattarai, who is said to have favoured a softer line on India. The contradictions between central-level statements about links to fraternal parties and recent attacks on the leftist United Peoples Front in the mid-west hint at a breakdown in control. While the leadership calls on UN mediation, grassroots militia defy international condemnation of forced recruitment of school students, abduction of a Unicef staffer and looting of WFP aid.

Kervan – International Journal of Afro-Asiatic Studies n. 21 (2017) Item Girls and Objects of Dreams: Why Indian Censors Agree to Bold Scenes in Bollywood Films Tatiana Szurlej The article presents the social background, which helped Bollywood film industry to develop the so-called “item numbers”, replace them by “dream sequences”, and come back to the “item number” formula again. The songs performed by the film vamp or the character, who takes no part in the story, the musical interludes, which replaced the first way to show on the screen all elements which are theoretically banned, and the guest appearances of film stars on the screen are a very clever ways to fight all the prohibitions imposed by Indian censors. Censors found that film censorship was necessary, because the film as a medium is much more popular than literature or theater, and therefore has an impact on all people. Indeed, the viewers perceive the screen story as the world around them, so it becomes easy for them to accept the screen reality and move it to everyday life. That’s why the movie, despite the fact that even the very process of its creation is much more conventional than, for example, the theater performance, seems to be much more “real” to the audience than any story shown on the stage. Therefore, despite the fact that one of the most dangerous elements on which Indian censorship seems to be extremely sensitive is eroticism, this is also the most desired part of cinema. Moreover, filmmakers, who are tightly constrained, need at the same time to provide pleasure to the audience to get the invested money back, so they invented various tricks by which they manage to bypass censorship.

'Don 2' puts Berlin in the limelight in India. Berlin, 4.1.2012 Berlin in Bollywood. The film “Don 2- The King is back” is on course to set new box-office records as it premieres in India and is also showing signs of becoming an international blockbuster. Indian superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s new film may well lead to a boom in the number of visitors to Berlin, as the German capital is the main setting for this blockbuster action film. Audiences in India love the film; there is a rush for tickets as most showings are sold out and reviews have been positive. “Berlin now also plays a leading role in India. Thanks to Shah Rukh Khan’s new blockbuster the city has been opened up to millions of people in India and Asia. Bollywood films are seen by hundreds of millions of filmgoers and the most enthusiastic fans follow their idols everywhere“, says Burkhard Kieker, Managing Director of visitBerlin. “The film “Don 2- The King is back” creates marketing advantages which would be unthinkable and unaffordable through advertising. Berlin did not mean much to most Indians. That will all change thanks to Shah Rukh Khan and there will be noticeable effects on tourism in Berlin in the coming years.” The film production was brought to Berlin thanks to a joint initiative by visitBerlin, the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Berlin Partner and Berlin’s airports. Shah Rukh Khan kept Berlin in suspense for 50 days during filming in autumn 2010. In the film Kahn’s alias Don is involved in a top speed pursuit through the Gendarmenmarkt.

ABSTRACT The Bollywood film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (hereinafter ‘ZNMD’), translated into Spanish as Solo se vive una vez, was a box office success in the summer of 2011 in India. Directed by the young filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and funded by Turespaña, ZNMD was conceived as a perfect marketing product at transnational level, in which Spain becomes the venue chosen by three young people who decide to celebrate the bachelor party of one of them, by visiting some touris- tic towns and villages of the country. The film raises interesting topics on the ascending upper middle class in India which seeks to harmonize a new consumerist way of life with a more tra- ditional lifestyle linked to their parent’s generation, and it is a clear example of an increasingly globalized cultural industry with more economic weight inside and outside India.
