Big Business And Conservative Groups Helped Bolster The Sedition Caucus’ Coffers During The Second Fundraising Quarter Of 2021 Executive Summary During the 2nd Quarter Of 2021, 25 major PACs tied to corporations, right wing Members of Congress and industry trade associations gave over $1.5 million to members of the Congressional Sedition Caucus, the 147 lawmakers who voted to object to certifying the 2020 presidential election. Anti-‐Science Climate Denier Caucus Virginia
ANTI-SCIENCE CLIMATE DENIER CAUCUS Climate change is happening, and humans are the cause. But a shocking number of congressional Republicans—more than 55 percent—refuse to accept it. One hundred and fifty-seven elected representatives from the 113th Congress have taken more than $51 million from the fossil-fuel industry, which is the driving force behind the carbon emissions that cause climate change. These representatives deny what more than 97 percent of climate scientists say is happening: Current human activity creates the greenhouse gas emissions that trap heat within the atmosphere and cause climate change. And their constituents are paying the price, with Americans across the nation suffering 368 climate-related national disaster declarations since 2011. There were 25 extreme weather events that each caused at least $1 billion in damage since 2011, including Superstorm Sandy and overwhelming drought that has covered almost the entire western half of the United States. Combined, these extreme weather events were responsible for 1,107 fatalities and up to $188 billion in economic damages. VIRGINIA We have a moral obligation to act on climate change to protect our future generations. Despite the overwhelming scientific consensus and high costs to taxpayers, Virginia has seven resident deniers who have taken $1,265,624 in career dirty energy contributions. In comparison, the remaining six members of the Virginia congressional delegation have only taken $304,532. The state has suffered eight climate-related disaster declarations since 2011, and parts of the state are already suffering from the impacts of sea-level rise. January 1, 2021 The Honorable Nancy Pelosi The Honorable Kevin McCarthy Speaker Minority Leader 1236 Longworth House Office Building 2468 Rayburn House Office Building U.S. House of Representatives U.S. House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 Washington, DC 20515 Dear Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader McCarthy: We write today in support of the existing Capitol Police Board regulations that have helped protect Members for more than 50 years and ask that you not include any provisions in the House Rules package that attempt to alter these protections. Currently, Members of Congress are allowed to carry firearms within the U.S. Capitol Complex as a result of U.S. Capitol Police Board’s regulations and 40 U.S.C. § 5104. The current regulations allowing Members of Congress to carry have helped protect these Members and their Second Amendment rights since 1967. There are substantial precedents for this type of regulation throughout the U.S. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, more than two dozen states allow guns in capitol buildings. Of those states, “nine permit ‘open carry,’ 13 allow firearms owners with permits to carry and four allow legislators or legislative staff to carry in the capitol.’” Washington, D.C. has a violent crime problem and D.C.'s violent crime rate is 158% higher than the national average. In 2020 alone, there have been more than 180 homicides, more than 1,500 assaults with a deadly weapon, and more than 1,800 robberies. Furthermore, there is a history of violent attacks on Members of Congress and Capitol Police. -
Long Road to AFNHA Designation

Chris Van Hollen, MD the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area designation bill was included in the 2018 S 47 bipartisan lands bill. The companion House bill was sponsored by Rep. David McKinley, with co‐sponsors in the previous session from Rep. Evan Jenkins, Rep. John Delaney, and Rep. Alex Mooney, and in the 2019 session adding co‐sponsors Rep. Carol Miller and Rep. David Trone. The Natural Resources Management Act, including AFNHA designation, was passed by a strong bipartisan majority in both Houses of Congress, and signed into law (http://www.afha.us/docs/AFNHA%20Designated.pdf) as the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act on March 12, 2019. History of the AFNHA initiative An initiative of West Virginia University's Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences and the WVU Extension Service, Appalachian Forest Heritage Area project was originally funded by a USDA "Fund for Rural America" grant. It was coordinated by a project team from West Virginia University (WVU) and Canaan Valley Institute (CVI), with active partnership from state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and communities throughout the area. After its October 2001 inception, the AFHA project convened large-group stakeholder meetings and numerous task group sessions. A broad range of participants with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints participated to guide the project's course. The work of building a consistent theme and integrated network went hand-in-hand with communities committing to local projects.
