Wayne Harris who did a fantastic job as Veterans Coordinator Harvey Jones who co-ordinated getting 8 Junior teams on the field each week. Jimmy Wright, Kiel Johnsen, Eddie Plant and Greg Cull have taken on the role of social committee and organised a number of successful functions including the Ladies Lunch, the Trivia Night and the Reverse Draw as well as the Presentation Night which was a fitting climax of a great season. As always the workers crew of Jack Wright, Roger Smith and Peter Burchall with moral and bakery support from KR and Richard Harding have kept the pavilion in fantastic condition as well as keeping the canteen stocked and catering for the Umpires monthly meetings. Our first XI has had a fine year under the leadership of Bryan Vance. However, before continuing let me take a moment to recognise and thank our major sponsors, Bendigo Bank, The Harp of Erin, Bread Street and Maritime Estate; again we have been extremely fortunate to have their support – if you have an opportunity please support their businesses. In his first year as Captain/Coach Bryan performed extremely well both as Captain and as Batsmen/Bowler. His batting showed maturity along with class and ability to perform on the big occasions, bowling more this season produced the results we all knew he was capable of. Recognition of his leadership and personal performance came with Bryan’s naming as Captain of the ECA team of the year. He received great support from the whole club but in particular senior first XI players Paul Devine , Tim Wright, Tim Hargreaves and Travis Baker. Unfortunately (for the club at least) Bryan has taken up a position in Bendigo which will allow him to complete his much delayed qualifications. We wish him well for the future and hope it won’t be too long before he returns to the club. While elucubrating over this report I’ve been taken back again to Donvale Reserve in mid March and some great performances against our old foe Mulgrave: Jim Blakely 60, Bryan with 63 and Tim Wright 32 being the major contributors with the bat, but it was the bowlers who provided the greater highlights with Greg Cull’s performance 23/13/6/20 simply outstanding , Chris Jackson’s (U21 Player of the year) 2/12 and Tim Hargreaves 2/43 making Mulgrave’s total of 117 insufficient to match our 226. Appointed Captain of the 2 nd XI, Greg took up the responsibility of leading his XI probably to the detriment of his own game.

In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.

  • Leach Takes Three Wickets but Australia XI Build Strong Lead Against England Lions
Jack Leach celebrates with Sam Hain and James Bracey Jul 16, 2019 19:36 BST Leach takes three wickets but Australia XI build strong lead against England Lions SCORECARD: https://www.ecb.co.uk/matches/10411 England Lions trail the Australia XI by 353 runs going into the final day at Canterbury after a day of mixed fortunes. The first hour of day three was almost a carbon copy of the same period on day two. This time, though, it was England who lost quick wickets to bring their innings to a close, 130 behind the tourists. Lewis Gregory and Jack Leach went for ducks, while Sam Curran reached 50 and then got out stumped to spinner Jon Holland. And Jamie Porter was the last to fall, lbw to Chris Tremain. Porter delivered with the ball early on though, having Joe Burns caught in the slips by Sam Hain. Marcus Harris and Kurtis Patterson added 73 before Harris gave Somerset spinner Leach his first wicket of the match, chipping the ball up to Dom Sibley. Leach then dismissed Patterson in his next over thanks to a smart catch from Ollie Robinson at slip. Robinson also picked up his first wicket of the match, and first for the Lions, trapping Mitchell Marsh in front for 26. Test captain Tim Paine batted patiently for 38, only to then get a leading edge to Leach, which took an eternity to come down into the bowler’s hands, bringing reward for bowling unchanged for the entire evening session. Matthew Wade, who scored a century in the first innings, retired hurt over the tea interval having taken a blow on the elbow from Lewis Gregory.

  • Parents Guide 2018 Part 2
The club Fives and Heronians was formed in 1971 as the combination of two clubs; Old Heronians CC and Fives Sports Club. We currently run four senior teams in the Shepherd Neame Essex Leagues on Saturdays and both Cup and Friendly senior games on Sundays throughout the season together with indoor league teams through the winter. Our Colts section has teams at under 11, under 13 and under 15 age groups as a minimum. Our home ground ‘The Paddock’ has one of the best wickets in the County which is used as often as possible for Colts matches. When this is not possible we use either Chigwell School or Old Chigwellians. Both of which have pitches far superior than most of our opponents will be used to! Colts are asked to pay an annual subscription fee and contribute towards matches and training costs by paying a fee for each match or session attended. The club is a non-profit making organisation, subscriptions cover the provision of equipment and facilities at The Paddock and contribute to coaching, pitch preparation costs and competition entry fees. 2017 Prize Winners with Essex and England Lions’ Jamie Porter, a former Fives ‘Colt of the Year’ Moving into senior cricket The club sees the Colts section as the future of the club and, as such endeavours to provide players with an opportunity to learn the game in a variety of ways. Colts will be given the opportunity to play above their age group when appropriate. This can help the players’ own development by exposing them to an often higher quality opposition and by allowing them to learn from their team-mates.

  • Essex Eagles Vs Sussex Sharks Royal London One-Day Cup the Cloudfm County Ground, Chelmsford Tuesday 30Th April 2019
Essex Eagles vs Sussex Sharks Royal London One-Day Cup The Cloudfm County Ground, Chelmsford Tuesday 30th April 2019 Will Beer brilliantly shattered his best score for Sussex Sharks to hand his side a nervy one wicket win over Essex Eagles in Royal London One-Day Cup at Chelmsford. Leg-spinner Beer arrived at the crease on 94 for six before he produced a superb 75 in a three-figure stand with Laurie Evans. The pair's 121-run partnership was Sussex's highest for the seventh wicket in one-day cricket, beating Ian Gould and Garth le Roux's 33-year-old record. Recalled to the side after missing out on Sussex's win at Lord's on Saturday, Beer's previous best was an unbeaten 45 against Durham in 2014 as he helped the Sharks on their way to an incredible win. The gutsy victory was secured when No.10 and No.11s Danny Briggs and Mir Hamza scored the required seven off the last over with a ball to spare to send Sussex to their fourth victory in five outings. On his 28th birthday, Briggs finished unbeaten on 37 from 26 balls, also a career-best in the format. Earlier, Essex had won the toss and elected to bat on the same pitch on which they beat Hampshire on two days previous. Sir Alastair Cook and Varun Chopra, who returned from a quad injury, put on Essex’s best opening stand in the competition so far as they reached 73 without loss. Chopra was given a life on 15 when he was dropped at first slip by Phil Salt but failed to scored a third successive format century when he was lbw to a booming George Garton in-swinger.
