REJECT RACISM Hope Not Hate challenges hate and organised intolerance within society. We mobilise communities by providing a positive alternative to the politics of hate. We believe in localised campaigning, working within communities where the organised racists are attracting their support. We try to build relationships, give confidence to those who dislike racism and empower communities to provide a more positive alternative to the politics of despair. We both challenge the myths and lies put out by the BNP and their ilk and also positively mobilise those people who are opposed to racism. We are not aligned to any political party and will work with everyone where possible. Details of any other activities, such as visits undertaken by the Group or papers/report published by the Group should also be provided. 6 February 2013 and AGM: A presentation was received from the Chief Executive of the Science and Technology Facilities Council on the international work of the STFC, including the contribution to the Large Hadron Collider. This formed part of the week long exhibition at the Scottish Parliament of the LHC, which was attended by a large number of school students and members of the science community. Professor Peter Higgs, the renowned physicist participated in the main public event. Attendance at the CPG was 25 including 4 MSPs. 8 October 2013. Eight people attended a meeting that received a briefing from Dr Neil Robertson of the University of Edinburgh on Transforming Scotland from Nuclear Energy. The meeting included two MSPs, Dr Elaine Murray and Clare Adamson. 19 / 20 January 2014. Four MSPs who are members of the CPG attended a study visit to the CERN facilities in Geneva, Switzerland. Expenses for this were provided by a bursary from the Science and Technology Facilities Council, to the value of £350 per MSP. MSPs who attended this visit were Clare Adamson, Iain Gray, Drew Smith and Patrick Harvie.

It also lists the MSPs that held dual mandates in previous sessions. Dual mandate is the term used to describe those MSPs who, in addition to their seat in the Scottish Parliament, also hold a seat in either the House of Commons (MPs), House of Lords (Peers) or represent a ward in their local council (councillors). This fact sheet lists the name of the MSP, their party and the constituency or region that they represent in the Scottish Parliament. Constituency Report (October 2017) Labour Party Conference As you all will know, this September we had a fantastic Labour Party Conference in Brighton. Throughout the Conference I met people buzzing with fresh ideas. The optimism and determination of our MPs and party activists contrasted so starkly with that of the government, and showed that we in the Labour Party are a government in waiting. At Labour Women’s Conference I had the honour of giving the keynote speech, which allowed me to pay tribute to those women who have paved the way Visiting the CWU Conference stand before me. I spoke about the importance of social care, how we have a Cinderella service, and how local councils and healthcare services need to work together to provide a proper safety net. It was a fantastic opportunity to speak to Labour women from all over the country, celebrate how far we’ve come in the last year, and instil a sense of determination for the campaign’s ahead. On the Monday of Labour Party Conference I gave a speech in the International Session, in my capacity as Shadow Foreign Secretary. I set out Labour’s vision for an ethical foreign policy, the need for a revolution of Supporting Northern Irish women values in our outlook towards the world, and the re- establishment of a world based on rules and laws. In an era characterised by the resurgence of isolationist, nationalist leaders, the Labour Party must be as internationalist as ever.
