    • Named the 28th head football coach in school history on Feb. 8, 2015. Bonamego, who played at CMU from 1983-86, is the first alum to lead the program since Bill Kelly (1951-66). • Led CMU to a Mid-American Conference West Division title with a 6-2 league record in 2015. It was CMU’s first division crown since 2009 and were the most MAC wins since that same season. • First CMU head coach to lead his program in three bowl games. The Chippewas have played in a postseason contest all three of Bonamego’s seasons. • Overcame a bout with tonsil cancer. After revealing the diagnosis on June 18, 2015, Bonamego went through a treatment plan that included seven weeks of radiation five days a week and chemotherapy every Monday for eight weeks. On Nov. 21, 2015, he announced that his doctors had proclaimed him cancer-free. • Following the 2015 season, players voted Bonamego as the recipient of the Kurt Dobronski Award, along with linebacker Tim Hamilton. He is the first non-player to win the award in its 33-year history. • Among all Division I FBS head coaches, Bonamego has the third-most years of NFL experience (16).
