Lady Pirates Tennis Team Sets Records For the 2018 season, the Lady Pirates Tennis Team finished 2 nd in the SBC with a 14‐3 record. The only “in conference” defeats they had were in their matches with Norwalk. At the SBC Championships, the Pirates had several top‐notch performances with the 1 st doubles team of Diana Schoder and Ryleigh Keller and 3 rd singles player Dehvin Shumate emerging as SBC Champions. Dehvin was undefeated in her matches in the SBC this year. At Sectionals at Perrysburg, Emma Lynch battled her way to the singles championship title while Maria Schoder and Diana Schoder worked together to secure the doubles championship title. The Schoder sisters didn't drop a single game throughout the Sectionals tournament. At Districts, Maria and Diana achieved something that has not happened for a doubles team in 15 years for Perkins ‐ a victory! They were one win away from a trip to state! Congratulations Lady Pirates Tennis! This Week’s Learning Highlights The F rench 4 class culminated a unit on le mariage français (French wedding traditions) with a MasterChef competition to make a French wedding cake. The cakes are called croquembouche which means to pop them in your mouth. The cakes are made of cream puffs attached in a tower with a caramel sauce. It’s considered good luck in France to eat one whole at a time. Mr. Crabtree’s Physical Education classes recently participated in championship matchups to crown this year’s Cornhole champions. In 7th Period, To by Yoakum and Cade Schmidt (5‐0) bested L incoln Pfanner and Drew McKillips 21‐9 in the championship game. In 1st Period ‐ B randon Lee and Luke Schaefer (4‐0) bested Keegan Schoen and Kaden Weyer 21‐6 in the championship game. It's hard to beat a person who never gives up. Babe Ruth Health and fitness are two things that go hand‐in‐hand. For the students in M r. Crabtree’s Health classes, the things they’ve had in their hands to promote learning included medicine balls and plate weights. A game of catch with a weighty medicine ball gave students a feel for the concepts of muscular strength and muscular endurance. Other students could feel the burn as they held plate weights in positions designed to bring about muscle fatigue and overloading.
