Hicks Lawrence he Skating Club of Wilmington has been part of the Wilmington community for over 50 years, but its story began with a group of people who enjoyed ice 1965-1966 Fred L. Mitchell skating on the Brandywine River. Unfortunately, their ice skating was limited 1966-1967 Robert A. Moosman T to a few days every winter. 1967-1968 Caroll F. Poole In 1955, they constructed an outdoor ice rink with portable ice making machinery. 1968-1969 Earl A. Abrahamson This small group contacted those whom they knew would be interested in forming 1969-1970 Pauline S. Bowen and joining a skating club to form the Wilmington Skating Club in March 1955. On Feb. 4, 1956 the club applied for membership in the United States Figure Skating Associa- 1970-1971 Frederick A. Keidel tion (USFSA). Membership was granted in 1958 and the club continued to use the 1971-1973 Emory P. Mersereau outdoor ice rink for the next few years. 1973-1974 Thomas A. Ford On March 3, 1961, the club name was changed and incorporated as The Skating Club 1974-1975 Frederick A. Keidel of Wilmington, lnc., and on March 20, 1964, members skated on their own ice for the first time, and ice skating was possible for 10 months of the year. 1975-1976 Robert A. Bouchard 1976-1977 Caroll F. Poole The club gradually made additions such as locker rooms, upstairs kitchen, bleachers, show lighting, audio system and ceiling insulation to their basic building. The rink was 1977-1979 Daniel G. Tynan in such demand that for years it was open 24 hours a day - for10 months of each year. 1979-1981 Joseph A. Rosenthal The next big addition came in 1989 when the club renovated the rink to add a new 1981-1984 Dana Mc Kinney, Jr. refrigeration system, a longer ice surface, and many other features. As a result, The Skating Club of Wilmington was able to operate 12 months a year. In 1997, the 1984-1986 Norada M. Sharkey Skating Club of Wilmington was granted non-profit, 501(c)3 status. 1986-1988 Richard A. Stuckey Over the years, SCW has hosted an array of events. SCW hosted the first United States 1988-1990 John C. Rodowski Adult Figure Skating Championship (Adult Nationals) in 1995. Adult Nationals was 1990-1992 Donald D. Thureau such a success that USFSA made it an annual event and, ironically, it has grown too large to be accommodated at SCW, where it began. 1992-1993 John J. Hardy 1993-1995 Kathleen A. Casey Community activities included fundraisers for the Ronald McDonald House, local schools and PTA groups, the annual Wilmington Firefighters/Police hockey game 1995-1998 Valerie S. • State and Federal Actions Will Affect and Be Affected by Implementation Ofthe Village Ofsag Harbor Local Waterftont Revitalization Program (L WRP)
State and federal actions will affect and be affected by implementation ofthe Village ofSag Harbor Local WaterfTont Revitalization Program (L WRP). Under State law and the U.S. Coastal Zone Management Act, certain State and federal actions \\~thin or affecting the local waterfront area must be "consistent" or "consistent to the maximum extent practicable" \"lith the enforceable policics and purposes ofthe LWRP. This consistency requirement makes the LWRP a unique. intergovernmental mechanism for sening policy and making decisions and helps to prevent detrimental actions from occurring and future options from being needlessly foreclosed. \Vhile consistency requirements primarily help prevent detrimental actions from occurring and help ensure that future options are not needlessly foreclosed, active participation of the part ofState and federal agencies is also likely to be necessary to implement specific provisions of the LViRP. The first pan ofthis section identifies the actions and programs ofState and federal agencies which should be undertaken in a manner consistent with the LWRP. This is a generic list of actions and programs, as identified by the New York State Department ofState; therefore, some of the actions and programs listed may not be relevant to this LWRP. Pursuant to the State Waterfront Revitalization of Coastal Areas and Inland Waterways Act (Executive Law, Article 42). the Secretary ofState individually and separately notifies affected State agencies ofthose agency actions and programs which are to be undertaken in a manner consistent with approved LWRPs. Similarly, federal agenc), actions and programs subject to consistency requirements are identified in the manner prescribed by the U.S. Coastal Zone Management Act and its implementing regulations.
