Changes to the Westbury Weaver Local Bus Service and Service 58 To Changes to the Westbury Weaver local bus service and service 58 to Frome starting on 29 January 2018 On 29 January we will be making some adjustments to the times of the buses operated by the Frome Minibuses bus company in the Westbury area. The new timetables are included in this leaflet and include the following alterations: • Buses from Frome and Dilton Marsh to Westbury will now be numbered 47 instead of 58 or 58C. On weekdays the new timetable will be very similar to the one currently in use, but the times of buses to/from Frome on Saturdays will be different. • New bus service X47 will now provide a peak hour link to / from Trowbridge from Chapmanslade, Dilton Marsh and Westbury Leigh in the morning and now also in the afternoon, replacing service X58. • Westbury local services 58A and 58B will be numbered 45A and 45B. As a result of these changes, the times of most journeys will have changes slightly – please check them carefully. • Addendum to School Places Strategy 2017-2022 – Explanation of the Differences Between Wiltshire Community Areas and Wiltshire School Planning Areas
Addendum to School Places Strategy 2017-2022 – Explanation of the differences between Wiltshire Community Areas and Wiltshire School Planning Areas This document should be read in conjunction with the School Places Strategy 2017 – 2022 and provides an explanation of the differences between the Wiltshire Community Areas served by the Area Boards and the School Planning Areas. The Strategy is primarily a school place planning tool which, by necessity, is written from the perspective of the School Planning Areas. A School Planning Area (SPA) is defined as the area(s) served by a Secondary School and therefore includes all primary schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into that secondary school. As these areas can differ from the community areas, this addendum is a reference tool to aid interested parties from the Community Area/Area Board to define which SPA includes the schools covered by their Community Area. It is therefore written from the Community Area standpoint. Amesbury The Amesbury Community Area and Area Board covers Amesbury town and surrounding parishes of Tilshead, Orcheston, Shrewton, Figheldean, Netheravon, Enford, Durrington (including Larkhill), Milston, Bulford, Cholderton, Wilsford & Lake, The Woodfords and Great Durnford. It encompasses the secondary schools The Stonehenge School in Amesbury and Avon Valley College in Durrington and includes primary schools which feed into secondary provision in the Community Areas of Durrington, Lavington and Salisbury. However, the School Planning Area (SPA) is based on the area(s) served by the Secondary Schools and covers schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into either The Stonehenge School in Amesbury or Avon Valley College in Durrington.

  • Parish Plan Appendices Rev 1.0 Copy
Chapmanslade Parish Plan Appendices Appendix 1 The History of Chapmanslade As far as we can ascertain, we are the only place in the country with the name of Chapmanslade. So where does the name come from? No one can say with any certainty, but a ‘chapman’ was a pedlar selling goods and a ‘slade’ is a way through – from here to there. In olden times people travelled with their sheep from the Mendips to the Wiltshire Downs and the other way to market in Frome. Perhaps having trudged up the steep hill from Frome, and having reached the flat land at the top where the village lies they would stop for a well-earned rest, maybe buying a drink at one of the many hostelries (there were at least five) or buying or trading the things they needed from local tradespeople and businesses, such as tools for working the land from the village blacksmith whose smithy can be seen in the photograph on the left jutting out into the road. And it’s still there today – but no longer used. Reference: A pedlar is defined as: ‘Any hawker, petty Chapman, tinker, caster of metals, mender of chairs, or other person, who, without any horse or other beast drawing burden, travels and trades on foot and goes from town to town or houses, to sell goods, wares, merchandise or his skill in handicraft.’ Whatever its origins, we can trace back the name of Chapmanslade for a long time. The earliest reference dates back to the year 1245. In April 1252 the great Bracton (a famous medieval judge) sat with the Sheriff of Wiltshire at Chapmanslade.

  • Development Proposals, Boundary Changes & Council
Trowbridge Town Council News Article July 2020 Working with the Community Development Proposals, Boundary Changes & Council Tax There have been a number of questions raised and media articles about the links between new housing development proposals, boundary changes and council tax recently. Development Proposals New housing developments are planned by Wiltshire Council through the Local Development Framework which includes the Core Strategy and the Wiltshire Housing Sites Allocation Plan. The Core Strategy, which was adopted by Wiltshire Council in January 2015, includes a large allocation at Ashton Park, either side of the West Ashton Road between Leap Gate and Larkrise Farm and extending across the River Biss to the railway line and down to Yarnbrook. Some of this area is in the Trowbridge Town boundary, some is in West Ashton Parish and most of it is in North Bradley Parish. This development is described in Wiltshire Council’s Core Strategy as, “an urban extension of the town”. The Wiltshire Housing Sites Allocation Plan (WHSAP), was adopted by Wiltshire Council in February 2020. This followed a public inquiry conducted by an independent planning inspector. The sites meet the need for housing for ‘Trowbridge’ (and not the villages) as one of Wiltshire’s three Principle Settlements (as well as Chippenham and Salisbury), as determined by Wiltshire Council in accordance with government housing numbers. Part of the requirement arises from the delays to Ashton Park and the failure of other sites to be acceptable, including the Castle Mead extension and the Leap Gate/West Ashton Road triangle, both of which are in the town boundary, but too close to Green Lane Woods.

  • Electoral Review Wiltshire Council Response to the Draft Recommendations of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England April 2019
Electoral Review Wiltshire Council Response to the Draft Recommendations of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England April 2019 Executive Summary 1. This document sets out the response of Wiltshire Council (“The Council”) to the draft recommendations of the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (“The Commission”) on a pattern of 98 electoral divisions to apply from the next unitary elections in May 2021. 2. The response was prepared following consideration of the draft recommendations by the Electoral Review Committee (“The Committee”) and engagement with members of the Council. 3. The Commission’s draft recommendations to a large extent followed the proposals of the Council in its pattern of divisions submission made on 5 November 2018, either accepting the proposals directly or with minor amendments. 4. However, in a number of areas the draft recommendations propose significantly different electoral divisions. The Council considered all the proposals and was happy to accept many of them even where there were major changes from its own proposals, recognizing they were still acceptable under the statutory criteria or even improvements on its own proposals. However, it considered that the local evidence demonstrates many others did not align with the criteria of the electoral review, namely that they did not provide convenient or effective local governance or represent community identity appropriately. 5. In particular, it was felt an inconsistent approach had been applied on the suitability of combining urban areas with rural areas without recognition of whether this is appropriate locally. While each proposed division must be considered in relation to local factors and therefore what is appropriate in one area may not be appropriate in another, the Commission’s proposals in several areas seem to demonstrate insufficient weight has been given to shared character and interests, and in some cases an overemphasis on quite limited road links as overwhelming any other factors and considerations of community, identity and governance.
