Dear Friends, Our Novena to St. Anne continues this week. Our theme this year is “Experiencing God During a Pandemic.” Each evening this week we will have evening prayer at 7PM at St. Anne . During the evening prayer we will hear a Scripture passage and a reflection meant to help us get more fully in touch with God’s presence despite the anxiety and confusion of these days. Please join us on as many evenings as you are able for a space of peace and beauty in which to quiet yourself in God’s presence. The Scripture passages and speakers this week are: Sunday July 19th: Matthew 10:2628; 11:2830 [Fear not. Come to me all who labor] Fr. Jim Lawlor Monday July 20th: 2:111 [Jonah prays in the great fish] Deacon John McDermott Tuesday July 21st: I will reflect on Acts 16:2234 [Paul and Silas sing hymns in prison] Wednesday July22nd: I John 4:712 [God is love] Deacon Bill Rabjohn Thursday July 23rd: Matthew 5:112a [the ] Deacon Bill Rabjohn Friday July 24th: I will reflect on Luke 11:913 [The Father will give the to those who ask] Saturday July 25th: I will reflect on Philippians 4:49 [Rejoice in always] Then on next Sunday Bishop Matano will preside at the 11AM Mass at St. Anne on the Feast of Anne and as we celebrate the 90th anniversary of St. Anne parish. Grace and peace, Fr. Gary Tyman

Hope is what Mary, Mother of God, sheltered in her heart during the darkest time of her life: Friday afternoon until Sunday morning. That is hope: she had it. And that hope has renewed everything. May God grant us that grace. Pope Francis

I choose to get tested somewhat regularly out of an abundance of caution, not because I’m worried I might actually be sick. With a disease that can spread asymptomatically, why take chances? Plus, the beauty of being New Yorkers, we can get tested out of caution and there’s no cost. They don’t ask to see your insurance card, never ask for payment. I’m struggling more trying to get my laptop delivered than I did getting an appointment. I also want to make myself available to people who may have questions about getting tested. I’m by no means an expert, but I’m willing to share my experiences and any knowledge I’ve gleamed from this. There are 16 different testing sites across Rochester, some requiring appointments, some being available for walkins. My experiences have been at the MCC testing site so this is the one I’m going to talk about. I also have a preference for this site as I get to stay in my car and my exposure to other people is extremely limited. I should also mention that at the MCC site, everyone in the car must be tested… you can’t take a ridesharing service to these tests or have someone else take you. But if you and your significant other are getting tested, you both can go in the same vehicle, just make sure to get appointments at the same time. Setting an appointment is very easy. You can either call 18883643065 or register online at www.monroecc.edu/coronavirus/, and then someone will call you to set the actual appointment. They set appointments up to 2 days out, so you can’t schedule one out for next week, but they have lots of spots and it’s easy to get in. This site is being run by the NYSDOH and is being facilitated by the National Guard. Once you get to the MCC campus, you’re going to drive to the back of campus to G. Once on the back side, it is very easy to see where you’re going. There’s also instructions at 1160AM radio. You place your drivers license on the dashboard so people can see it. You’re going to come to a check point with the National guard where they will hold up 3 signs with a questions… Do you have an appointment? Are you a 1st responder? Are you a VA Veteran? You nod or shake your head to answer, they check your ID, and put your information sheet under your windshield. Then you drive to another check point where they confirm your information. Your window is up the entire time. Next they direct you to one of two lines. They check your paperwork again to see that it’s you. When it’s your turn, you have your car in park, they have you roll down your window about 67 inches, you lean your head back, lower your mask to just below your nose but keep your mouth covered, and they stick a swab up a nostril. I’m not going to lie, it’s not the most comfortable test to have done. They go pretty deep up your nose. It mildly stings. They leave it in your nose for 10 seconds. The 1st test I had done, my nose was sore for about an hour. The 2nd time, it was only sore for about 10 seconds and was perfectly fine by the time I pulled out of the lot. The entire process took less than 20 minutes. In no way should this minor discomfort be a deterrent to getting tested. They give you a card for the results portal. The 1st test took 3 days to get my results. Once I was established, I got my results the next day for my next test. We are so very fortunate to live in the great State of New York during these trying times. Take advantage of the opportunities we have as New Yorkers. Get tested. Know for sure. Because as New Yorkers have proven over and over again, we will get through this, but only by concern for and respect of each other.
