AFP-400 EPROM Installation Document 50464 Rev B 1 Part Number 50464-B 12 Clintonville Road. ECN 96-060 8/22/96 Northford, CT 06472

Description This document contains installation instructions for installing a new EPROM into the AFP-400. Before installation, read the electrical precautions and the notes on installing an .

Electrical Precautions: Handling Integrated Circuits Handling ICs and Power Static electricity can destroy integrated circuits! The manufacturer is not responsible for Connections damage to an EPROM resulting from improper handling. To prevent EPROM damage, handle an IC using the following equipment: • a grounding pad and wrist strap; and ! • a static-free IC insertion/extraction tool.

Power Connections: Always remove primary and secondary power before working on the system! Before working on the system, do the following: 1) Disconnect battery power. 2) Disconnect AC power to the control panel at the main service circuit breaker—not the circuit breaker at the alarm control panel's power supply. Wait at least 60 seconds for capacitive discharge before touching any system compo- nents. Notes on Installing an Failure to install an EPROM in the correct orientation will destroy the EPROM. Integrated Circuit (IC) Note the orientation of the EPROM (the location of pin 1 in relation to the notch on the IC) on the board shown in Figure 1. Always install a replacement EPROM in the same orientation as the existing EPROM. Pin 1 on an IC must seat into position 1 of the socket on the board. Most ICs have a ! notch or a dot that shows the location of pin 1.

Step Action

1 Remove all power to the CP-400 board and disconnect optional modules.

2 Find EPROM U16 on the CPU-400 board (see Figure 2 below).

3 Gently loosen and remove—preferrably using an extraction tool—the old EPROM (U16) from the CPU-400 board. 4 Install the new EPROM: a) Position the EPROM with the notch facing up and pin 1 lined up to pin 1 in the socket; then (b) carefully ease all EPROM pins into the socket—making sure not to bend or break any pins—until all EPROM pins are seated into the socket. 5 Connect power to the CPU and connect optional modules.

Figure 2 shows the location of the EPROM socket on the CPU-400 board and the EPROM in the correct position for installation.
