Their first win against the Rams wasn"t very pretty either. Four times they were within 20 yards of the end zone but had to settle for three disappointing field goals to sweat out a 9-7 victory over the lowly Rams. In addition, if you can believe all the talk, their coach, Jim Zorn, is hanging on to his job by his finger nails. The Redskins defense was predicted to be one of the best, but it"s not living up to expectations. Injuries could also be a factor for the rest of the season. So watch out and pick a backup team to root for!

Caps Bag Maple Leafs by Will Shamma, 5G

Get ready Caps fans and search your closets for any red shirts because we"re skating into a real exciting season. This past Saturday the Caps rocked the Verizon Center in a loud and fast-paced season opener. Returning this season for the Caps is a leading goal scorer, Alexander Ovechkin, and his Swedish friend, Nicklas Backstrom. ! As the first period began, Ovechkin had a break-away chance and scored within the first two minutes of the game! Mike Knuble popped a dirty goal off the skate of Toronto"s goalie. For the third goal of the period, Alexander Semin managed a shake-and-bake goal for a score of 3-0. ! After two more periods of fast paced action and a little Alexander Ovechkin roughing, the score was 6-4 with the Caps ahead. In the last minute, the crowd went mad and it was so loud that you couldn"t hear a rock band! The Maple Leafs pulled their goalie and had an extra man on the ice. The Caps managed to thwart all offensive plays and went on to win. The fans poured out screaming “Lets Go Caps!” SPORTS X"TREME ! PAGE1 VOLUME 2, NO. 1! OCTOBER 9, 2009 2009 MLB PLAYOFFS Get Underway ! by Isaac Frumkin, 4K! ! The 2009 playoffs are going to be very exciting. The teams that have clinched playoff spots in the American League are the (AL East), the Minnesota Twins (AL Central), the Los Angeles Angels (AL West), and the (AL Wild Card). One thing that made the playoffs exciting is that the Tigers and the Minnesota Twins had a one game playoff for the Al Central. The Twins won 6-5 in the twelfth inning. ! In the National League, the teams that earned playoff spots are the Philadelphia Phillies (NL East), the St. Louis Cardinals (NL Central), the Los Angeles Twins rejoice after Carlos Gomez scores Dodgers (NL West), and the Colorado Rockies (NL the winning run against the Tigers to Wild Card). clinch AL Central ! The teams I think that are going to go all the way to the World Series are the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals. I picked the Yankees because they have the highest win percentage in MLB; their first baseman, Mark Teixeira, has the most home runs in the AL, and they have won 26 world series in the past. I picked the Cardinals because they have made the playoffs six times in the last nine years; one of their pitchers, Adam Wainwright, has the most wins in the NL, and their first baseman, Albert Pujols, has the most home runs in all of this year. Keep watch because it"s going to be a very exciting October! More MLB PLAYOFF Predictions: Who Will Come Out on Top? by Christopher Hamann, 5G

And is he always wearing his Yankees or Red Sox hat? He probably came home to watch the Yankees and Red Sox play in a big game. ! These teams have one of the oldest and deepest rivalries in baseball history. It started way back in the off season of 1919-1920. That"s when the Sox traded the Great Bambino or the Colossus of Clout or the Sultan of Swat or George Herman Ruth or whatever you"d like to call him--but he"s better known as --to the Yankees. That"s when everything went wrong for Boston. And, in a reversal of fortunes, everything started to go right for New York. ! The reason, I think, is because the Sox did not realize the Babe for what he really was--the best baseball player EVER. But I predict that after this Sunday, Oct. 11 that they will be 4-1. I say that they"ll lose to the Patriots 20-17. !
