Ancien directeur des Opérations France d’IBM, également PDG d’Unisys jusqu’en 2003, René LE GOFF était un homme engagé. En tant que citoyen d’abord, avec une carrière politique à Paris où il devint Adjoint à la Mairie du XVème de 1995 à 2001 puis Conseiller de Paris jusqu’en 2007. Il s’investit également dans le milieu associatif, et plus particulièrement dans le basketball. Joueur de devoir dans les équipes de jeunes du Racing Club de France où il croise un certain Alain Gilles à Roanne lors d’un match de Coupe de France Juniors, il en devient Trésorier par la suite avant de créer la première Société Anonyme à Objet Sportif du basket professionnel en 1988 avec le Paris Basket Racing. Il en reste Président jusqu’en 2001 avec en point d’orgue le titre de Champion de France en 1997 mais aussi la signature du premier contrat professionnel d’un certain Tony Parker. En devenant Président en 1995 de l’Union des Clubs Professionnels de Basket, il avait fait son entrée au sein des institutions du basket professionnel français tentant de fédérer les clubs de première division. En 2003, il succède à Alain Pelletier à la présidence de la Ligue Nationale de Basket.
