“how good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in unity …”

DEAR PADRE Isn’t evangelization a role best left to religious professionals? I worry about being ridiculed if I try to spread the Good News. Any suggestions?

Many Catholics incorrectly assume that evangelization is not their job but a task for priests, deacons, or others serving in an official capacity. But it is helpful to remember that evangelization is more a matter of commit- ment rather than a specialized competence. The Gospel proclaims that a disciple must go out into the world and spread the Good News. Evangelization is the mission and purpose of the whole Church. It is doing God’s will and work on earth. Your anxiety about being ridiculed may arise from a notion that others will reject in- formation about Jesus Christ. This fear may be underestimating the powerful attraction of the Good News. This worry may be based on your own lack of confidence rather than the response of others. There are several ways for dealing with this concern: First, acknowledge this fear and seek counsel and advice from someone who has overcome it. Second, remember that to help us offset these negative emotions we are all given the fruits of the Holy Spirit: joy, love, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control. Third, remember the future—God works in mysterious ways, and grace, though powerful, may take a long time to come to fruition.

The Redemptorists

RESPECT LIFE

Nine abortion businesses have closed in California. The latest is in Paso Robles due to “community pressure.” Planned Parenthood had also announced that it had closed 3 locations in New Mexico, their only PP in Wyoming, 4 locations in Iowa, 1 each in Colorado, and southern Nevada. Now is the time, more than ever, to come together to end abortion in our state of CA where 1/5 of all US abortions occur.

Pro-abortion Democrat Senator Connie Leyva from San Bernardino authored Senate Bill 320, which if passed will force UC and CSU Student Health Centers to distribute the Chemical Abortion Pill, intended to kill human life up to ten weeks of pregnancy.

The Trump administration has re-instated, and expanded, something the abortion movement disparages as “the global gag rule.” Such a rule would force Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health providers to either stop discussing abortions with their patients or stop receiving Title X money. And they’re complaining-loudly! They are labelling this legislation as an “attack” on “medical ethics”- as though the murder of a vulnerable, unborn child could be considered ethical.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Daniel Ottolia invalidated CA’s assisted suicide law. The judge agreed with Attorneys from Life Legal Defense that the CA state legislature violated the state constitution by passing the assisted suicide law during a special session that was limited to healthcare issues. Almost immediately, CA Attorney Gen Xavier Becerra appealed the decision-but the appeals court ruled to let the lower court decision stand.

PRAYER IS OUR MOST POWERFUL WEAPON IN THE WAR TO PRESERVE THE SANCTITY OF LIFE.
