Community

Haig Point is a charming sea island private club and community located just off the coast of South Carolina on Daufuskie Island between Hilton Head and Savannah, . Haig Point embraces southern family living and the Lowcountry lifestyle. Rich in history, majestic natural beauty, and endless recreational opportunities, Haig Point is a private island community where discovery is a daily experience. The entire community is surrounded by water-the Calibogue Sound, the Intracoastal, and the Atlantic Ocean. Haig Point is accessible by a member owned private ferry system on Hilton Head Island.

The community has 700 properties situated on 1,050 majestic acres. Current membership is around 560 families, mostly island residents but also those who reside off island.

Community Facilities

Haig Point offers a Rees Jones Signature unique 20-hole golf course and another nine-hole Osprey Course. Jones was the original course architect in 1986 and returned in 2007 for a course restoration. The course is considered one of the best in the Lowcountry and in the country, ranked at different times in Top 100 lists by and . Other facilities include six Har-tru tennis courts, tennis pro shop, and full service fitness center. The Beach Club has one of two pools (the other pool is at the tennis courts) and also casual dining. The Clubhouse features the 30th Hole grill for casual dining and the Main Dining Room for more formal dining and a larger space for wedding receptions and large member events. The Calibogue Club, with beautiful views of the Sound and Intracoastal, has the island’s signature restaurant for fine dining. Haig Point also has an extensive equestrian center with services and activities for both adults and children with trails winding throughout the island. Additionally, the community has a rental program for members without homes which includes the two bedroom historic Lighthouse and four bed and breakfast rooms located in the historic Strachan Mansion. The historic Strachan Mansion, located at the ferry station, serves as a hub for members and guests. The mansion has a General Store, post office, and coffee shop for residents between trips to the mainland.

Annual Gross Revenues of the club and community are roughly $11 million and annual food and beverage revenues approach $2 million.

Position Description

The General Manager is the Chief Executive Officer of the community and club and is responsible for the proper management of all aspects of Haig Point’s activities to ensure maximum member and guest satisfaction; a sound financial operation compatible with the best interests of residents, members, their guests, and employees; the marketing, development and sales of club properties, the maintenance and improvement of the quality of the island’s services; and the security and protection of the Haig Point’s assets, facilities, and equipment.

The CEO implements policies established by the Board. In addition, the CEO has the responsibility of recommending to the Board new policies or revisions to current policies that would result in operational improvements, property sales, and/or enhanced member satisfaction.

The CEO shall conform to all lawful orders given by the Board and shall regularly report to the Board on the operations of the community and club. At all reasonable times, the CEO shall give to the Board of Directors information that they may require regarding the affairs of the Club.

Reporting Structure

. The CEO shall report to and receive instructions only from the Board of Directors. . The Director of Marketing, The Director of Club Operations, Director of Property Services, Director of Transportation Services, and Director of Shared Services all report to the CEO as illustrated in the Management Organizational Chart. . The CEO shall retain overall responsibility for the community, club, staff, and operations.

Major Responsibilities

. The CEO shall manage and administer all community activities and shall devote full time and abilities to the operation of the community and its facilities. . Provide the overall administration of the community pursuant to the policies and directives adopted by the Board and within the general provisions of the Haig Point Club and Community Association (HPCCA) bylaws and rules. . Act in accordance with ethical and other standards as required by law and the Board. . Attend meetings of the Board of Directors and may attend meetings of the various committees, as needed, with respect to which he shall be designated as ex officio, non- voting member.

Requirements for the position

The candidate chosen for this position will possess the following skills and qualifications:

. A minimum of seven years as a General Manager, CEO, or COO in a comparable private community or resort community. . Candidates will have a working knowledge of all facets of community and club operations with strong emphasis on: . Financial management. . Community and club governance . Membership growth and retention. . Club operations management. . Real estate development and marketing. . Vision and strategic planning.

. A Hospitality, Business Management or related degree is preferred. . A professional association designation is preferred. . Leadership skills with the ability to motivate a veteran staff and earn their respect. . An outgoing and friendly personality-hands-on and member-friendly. . Excellent communication skills at all levels. . A strong sense of service with proven training skills. . The ability to see the “big picture” but also to have a critical eye for detail. . Impeccable and verifiable references. All candidates will be subject to a thorough background review and testing and must have an excellent credit record.
