We have the facilities and the experience necessary to do a professional job on all kinds of instruments, regardless of make. All mechanically sound instruments can be restored to near new condition. Our repairs are comprehensive: SCISSORS: To us, this is not just a simple treatment of the cutting edges; shanks and blades are aligned, screws reset, weak screws replaced, blade insides receive a new hollow-ground, edges are sharpened to the correct angle with a special grinding disc (made of silicone carbide material) to avoid “steel burning”. The scissors will be completely refurbished, cleaned and checked for a smooth cut. Inferior brands may have pinned and attened screws, or just have riveted joints, not allowing dismantling for proper sharpening. We do not recommend having them repaired. It is far more economical to replace these scissors. Check your sharpened scissors with a piece of gauze and see the dierence! NEEDLEHOLDERS with Tungsten Carbide inserts: Worn or cracked TC inserts can be replaced in almost any brand except AESCULAP. REPAIR PROGRAM REPAIR We use only German made TC inserts of the highest quality. After the bonding process the jaws are precisely aligned, spring tension and box lock checked, shanks and ratchets adjusted. The instruments will be fully refurbished; all spots and stains removed for a new look. Some inferior brands can have weak jaws after the heat treatment during the bonding process, which is beyond our control. Again only replacement of a better brand oers a viable solution. Your retipped needleholder is gripping like new! Customer Service 1800 998 141 [email protected] 15 CARE OF SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS • Use instruments only for the purpose for which they were designed. • Handle instruments gently – avoid bouncing, dropping or overstraining. • An automated process (disinfector) should be used wherever possible for cleaning and disinfecting instruments. Due to its signicantly lower eectiveness and reproducibility, a manual process – even using an ultrasonic bath – should only be used if an automated process is not available. • Disassemble all instruments with removable parts. • Pre treatment: Coarse contamination (eg: blood) must be removed from the instrument directly after use (within a maximum of 2hrs). For this purpose, use running water or disinfectant solution. Do not use steel wool, wire brushes, highly abrasive cleaners or detergents with a high pH (8-9), as this will damage the passive layer or “skin” of your instrument. The so-called passivation process during manufacturing forms a thin protective lm on the surface of the stainless steel itself. Older instruments are well protected by a tough layer of passivation as a result of many washing, drying and sterilisation processes. • Keep box locks, ratchets, hinges and serrations free from debris. If substances are allowed to build up in the box lock the instrument will become sti and be subject to misalignment and cracking. • Check that instruments are thoroughly dry before the sterilisation process. Any remaining moisture, particularly in the box locks, hinges and crevices may result in corrosion. • Never mix stainless steel and plated instruments together in the ultrasonic cleaner, as electrolysis will cause corrosion or etching on the stainless instruments. • Avoid contact corrosion. Always keep stained or corroded instruments away from impeccable stainless

  • Tech Tips: Tips and Tricks of the Trade Presented By: Kristin Loy, CVT
Tech Tips: Tips and Tricks of the Trade Presented by: Kristin Loy, CVT Forbidden Phrases: Never use the following phrases or ones similar if you want your coworkers to still like you o “Look at that vein!” or “That’s a nice vein.” o “It’s been pretty slow today.” o “I need to get out on time today because I have plans right after work.” Must Haves: These are must have items for every technician on the job. o On your person at all times a tech should have a stethoscope, black pen, highlighter, sharpie (I like the ones that are two ended so I can use the fine tip for writing on blood tubes), bandage scissors, calculator, and a notebook. Notebooks are great for whipping out and jotting down notes about a patient or directions for a medication your vet is hollering out of the room while you are restraining that fractious cat. o An extra set of scrubs, shoes, and socks (I also keep an extra set of underwear) in your car or locker. o Moisture wicking long sleeve shirts: For people who get cold or who break out with certain types of fur, these are great to wear under your scrubs. They keep you at a comfortable temp and also protects against those pesky nails during nail trims, blood draws, etc. o Spandex shorts: Your coworkers will thank you. No one wants to see your exposed partial moon! And if you haven’t had a pair of scrubs rip yet, just wait, your day will come but you’ll be good because you got this awesome advice! o Comfortable shoes: Your feet will thank you.
