History The caves are about 400 million years old and their entrances were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan/Besisi people. An American naturalist, William Hornaday, surveyed the limestone hills in 1878. Later in 1890, an Indian trader, K. Thamboosamy Pillai, placed a statue of Sri Murugan Swami and promoted the caves as a place of worship. Things to Do in Batu Caves Caving – The temple complex consists of three main caves and a few relatively smaller ones. The Temple Cave or Cathedral Cave – which is the biggest of all – shelters several ornate Hindu shrines beneath its 100-m-high arched ceiling. At the base of the hill, two more cave temples – Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave – also feature Hindu statues and paintings. Another sacred site, the Ramayana Cave, depicts the story of Lord Rama in a chronicled manner along its rugged walls. It was Promoted as a Place of worshiP and religious attraction. This study aims to find out the visitor satisfaction towards marketing mix (4P’s) and the destination image of Batu Caves. The data were derived from self–administered questionnaire consisted of structured questions related to the listed attributes. The survey was distributed during November 2016. The statistical Package for social science (SPSS20) was used to analyze the data. Results showed that most of the resPondents were satisfied with the Batu Caves marketing 4Ps, and had a favorable overall destination image and their visit was valuable. However, some of the tourists mentioned their negative feeling about the destination due to the maintenance activities and covering the lord Murugan Statue. It was initially only an ordinary cave which then was built an iconic statue in front of the cave that attracts tourists to come there. A statue of the Muruga God which has 42.7 meters (140 ft) tall has been launched in January 2006, attracting travellers from various parts of the world. The Malaysian government continues to develop the construction in the Batu Caves area. The construction development in each process will have the impacts, therefore there is a need for research on these impacts in order to avoid and reduce negative impacts and encourage positive impacts. This research process uses descriptive research method using a qualitative approach. The focus of this study is the implementation of tourism industry development in it includes the development of tourist objects and attractions, infrastructures, marketing and promotion of tourism, and the development of human resources. The next focus is the impact on the economic and socio-cultural conditions of the community due to the development of tourism and previous conditions.

THE PEOPLING OF ULU LANGAT* David Radcliffe The settlement of Ulu Langat occurred between the end of the Selangor Civil War in 1874 and about 1920, by which time the village pattern of the mukim (small administrative sub-division) was established. To understand the background, however, one must sketch in the early history of Selangor and outline the course of the Civil War, before focusing upon Ulu Langat as an example of the development of one particular mukim from the set back of the civil war period to the eve of the Japanese occupa tion. It is described from a particular vantage point, but the individuals who made the action were Sumatrans, and their colo nizing initiative is part of the greater history of the Malaysian peoples. The currents of this history were barely disturbed by the colonial interlude. The State of Selangor is based on five river systems. Its northern border with neighboring Perak is the valley of the Sungei (River) Bernam. Next to the south is the Sungei Selangor, where the first chief to take the title of Sultan set up his base; then the Sungei Klang, on which lie Klang town, the modern State capital, and further inland Kuala Lumpur, literally Muddy Confluence, the elegant and prosperous capital of the Federa tion of Malaysia; further south is the Sungei Langat, near the mouth of which is Bandar, the seat of the Sultan during the Civil Wars, 1866 to 1873, which preceded and precipitated British intervention.
