NASHVILLE, Tenn. ---A tip-in at the buzzer by Jerrell Houston spoiled an impressive second-half comeback by the Gamecocks and handed Tennessee State a dramatic 59-57 win in Ohio Valley Conference action. In a game where both teams involved were trying to snap losing skids of at least three games, the Gamecocks used a 21-2 second half run to turn a 10-point lead for the Tigers into a 51-42 JSU advantage. The Tigers stormed back, holding JSU without a field goal for the final 4:31 and converting on five of their final six attempts from the floor to snap their three game skid and hand the Gamecocks their fifth-straight loss. Brandon Crawford led the Gamecocks with 17 points, 12 in the second half, while grabbing a career-high nine rebounds. The Montgomery, Ala., native scored the Gamecocks’ first seven points of the second half to help ignite a JSU run that erased a 10-point halftime deficit and put the Gamecocks up by as many as nine in the final eight minutes. Sophomore Jeremy Bynum was the only other JSU player in double figures in the scoring column, scoring 12 points on a night that saw him start the game stone cold from the floor. The Oxford, Ala., native finished the night just 5-for-14 from the field, 2-for-8 from behind the arc. Bynum came just two rebounds short of a double-double with a career-high-tying eight. The Tigers turned to player that hasn’t been productive for them so far in the season. Sophomore center Gresham Jordan, a 6-foot-6, 309-pound forward that also plays tight end for the TSU football team, scored a game- high 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds after entering the game with just 50 points on the season and a career-high of 10 points. Sophomore Gerald Robinson scored 16 points for TSU, while Houston recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
