4:30–5:30 pm 100 Improving Outcomes for Pregnant Women and Infants Impacted by the Opoid Crisis NNP 2 NIC 1 LRN 3 Stephen Patrick, MD, MPH, MS Dr. Stephen Patrick is an acknowledged expert in the area of opioid use and abuse. He has researched and published widely on the opioid epidemic and neonatal abstinence syndrome. Dr. Patrick previously served as Senior Science Policy Advisor to the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and has testified before Congress on the rising numbers of newborns being diagnosed with opioid withdrawal after birth. He was consultant for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s publications “A Collaborative Approach to the Treatment of Pregnant Women with Opioid Use Disorders,” and “Advancing the Care of Pregnant and Parenting Women with Opioid Use Disorder and their Infants: A Foundation for Clinical Guidance.” Dr. Patrick discusses the rise of opioid-related complications among pregnant women and infants and a comprehensive approach to improve outcomes for the dyad.
