Dual naming of sea areas in modern atlases and implications for the East Sea/Sea of Japan case Rainer DORMELS* Dual naming is, to varying extents, present in nearly all atlases. The empirical research in this paper deals with the dual naming of sea areas in about 20 atlases from different nations in the years from 2006 to 2017. Objective, quality, and size of the atlases and the country where the atlases originated from play a key role. All these characteristics of the atlases will be taken into account in the paper. In the cases of dual naming of sea areas, we can, in general, differentiate between: cases where both names are exonyms, cases where both names are endonyms, and cases where one name is an endonym, while the other is an exonym. The goal of this paper is to suggest a typology of dual names of sea areas in different atlases. As it turns out, dual names of sea areas in atlases have different functions, and in many atlases, dual naming is not a singular exception. Dual naming may help the users of atlases to orientate themselves better. Additionally, dual naming allows for providing valuable information to the users. Regarding the naming of the sea between Korea and Japan present study has achieved the following results: the East Sea/Sea of Japan is the sea area, which by far showed the most use of dual naming in the atlases examined, in all cases of dual naming two exonyms were used, even in atlases, which allow dual naming just in very few cases, the East Sea/Sea of Japan is presented with dual naming. -

Condominiums and Shared Sovereignty | 1 Condominiums And Shared Sovereignty Abstract As the United Kingdom (UK) voted to leave the European Union (EU), the future of Gibraltar, appears to be in peril. Like Northern Ireland, Gibraltar borders with EU territory and strongly relies on its ties with Spain for its economic stability, transports and energy supplies. Although the Gibraltarian government is struggling to preserve both its autonomy with British sovereignty and accession to the European Union, the Spanish government states that only a form of joint- sovereignty would save Gibraltar from the same destiny as the rest of UK in case of complete withdrawal from the EU, without any accession to the European Economic Area (Hard Brexit). The purpose of this paper is to present the concept of Condominium as a federal political system based on joint-sovereignty and, by presenting the existing case of Condominiums (i.e. Andorra). The paper will assess if there are margins for applying a Condominium solution to Gibraltar. Condominiums and Shared Sovereignty | 2 Condominium in History and Political Theory The Latin word condominium comes from the union of the Latin prefix con (from cum, with) and the word dominium (rule). Watts (2008: 11) mentioned condominiums among one of the forms of federal political systems. As the word suggests, it is a form of shared sovereignty involving two or more external parts exercising a joint form of sovereignty over the same area, sometimes in the form of direct control, and sometimes while conceding or maintaining forms of self-government on the subject area, occasionally in a relationship of suzerainty (Shepheard, 1899). -

For example, Cape Breton Genealogy and Historical Association (CBGHA) and Family History Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (FHSNL) are a couple of organizations that use the terms. In a Genealogy Basic article about the United Kingdom and Ireland web site (Genuki), I used the Genuki site’s definition of Family History. Suggest that you read it. The article is in cbgen Records\Research. It is labeled “Genealogy Basics – An Amazing Irish Web Site”. My title of the article indicates that the Genuki site had a fantastic Getting Started link. Other tabs on the site were not reviewed. My simple view of Family History is: If the author includes non-verifiable oral history, it is a Family History document. My Register Reports in Records\Family are Family History Reports. Please note that a report by a paid professional genealogist often will only include verifiable facts. Some professionals go beyond one verifiable fact. For example, members of the Association of Professional Genealogists try to verify using two verifiable sources. Also, please remember that most genealogy teachers encourage students to start with relatives. A few teachers even say that the facts should be verified. Some teachers start on-line with Census records. Latest US Census records are for 1940. Canada Census records are for 1921. BACKGROUND I’ll cover eight of generations of my Tobin direct line family or siblings who taught (or still teach) starting with Patrick Tobin who immigrated from Gowran, Kilkenney, Ireland to Northern Bay, Bay DeVerde, Newfoundland in the early 1800s. -

The application of the Greek Taxon Information System (GTIS) of this project has been used in order to develop a complete checklist of species recorded from the Greek Seas. Inaccuracies and omissions were also investigated, according to literature and current taxonomic status. New information The up-to-date checklist of Stomatopoda of Greece comprises nine species, classified to eight genera and three families. In 1998 EEA published Guidelines for the implementation of the EUROWATERNET monitoring network for inland waters. In every Member Country a monitoring network should be designed according to these Guidelines and put into operation. Together these national networks will form the EUROWATERNET monitoring network that will provide information on the quantity and quality of European inland waters. In the future they will be developed to meet the requirements of the EU Water Framework Directive. This publication presents the Finnish EUROWATERNET monitoring network put into operation from the first of January, 2000. It includes a total of 195 river sites, 253 lake sites and 74 hydrological baseline sites. Groundwater monitoring network will be developed later. In addition, information about Finnish water resources and current monitoring strategies is given. This article is published with open access at Springerlink.com Abstract Terrigenous (Sc, Fe, K, Mg, Al, Ti) and suspended sediment load at a regional scale. In fact, the anthropogenic (Pb and Cu) element fluxes were measured extensive river damming that occurred in the upstream in a new sediment core from Lake Biel (Switzerland) and watershed catchment (between ca. 1930 and 1950 and up to in previously well-documented cores from two upstream 2,300 m a.s.l.) and that significantly modified seasonal lakes (Lake Brienz and Lake Thun). These three large peri- suspended sediment loads and riverine water discharge alpine lakes are connected by the Aare River, which is the patterns to downstream lakes noticeably diminished the main tributary to the High Rhine River. Our proposed GeoPRISMS Initiative is based on the premise that understanding the mechanics of plate motions (i.e., the force balance on the plates) is necessary to develop realistic models for plate interactions, including processes at subduction and extensional (rifting) plate boundaries. Important advances are being made with new geologic and geophysical techniques and observations that are providing fundamental insights into the dynamics of these plate tectonic processes. Our proposed research addresses directly the following questions identified in the GeoPRISMS SCD Draft Science Plan: 4.2 (How does deformation across the subduction plate boundary evolve in space and time, through the seismic cycle and beyond?), 4.6 (What are the physical and chemical conditions that control subduction zone initiation and the development of mature arc systems?), and 4.7 (What are the critical feedbacks between surface processes and subduction zone mechanics and dynamics?). It has long been recognized that the Greater Mediterranean region provides a natural laboratory to study a wide range of geodynamic processes (Figure 1) including ocean subduction and continent- continent collision (Hellenic arc, Arabia-Eurasia collision), lithospheric delamination (E Turkey High Plateau, Alboran Sea/High Atlas), back-arc extension (Mediterranean basins, including Alboran, Central Mediterranean, Aegean), “escape” tectonics and associated continental transform faulting (Anatolia, North and East Anatolian faults), and active continental and ocean rifting (East African and northern Red Sea rifting, central Red Sea and Gulf of Aden young ocean rifting).
