30hrs Northampton Childcare Moulton Lodge, Moulton Way North T: 01604 790440 Northamptonshire, NN3 7RW [email protected] www.childfirst.co.uk The introduction of 30 hours childcare & development will radically reduce parents costs. If you work and are eligible then your costs of a full time place will be substantially less.

A wonderful Georgian Lodge situated within 3 acres of land and forest only 10 minutes from Northampton town centre and right next door to the Moulton Park Business Park.

Hidden away from the main roads we are a truly homely building where children feel comfortable and at ease with a huge range of opportunities on offer to cook, rest, build, create, read, imagine and learn.

Then there is the outside, and what an outside it is! Here the children are encouraged to take risks, develop confidence and self esteem and explore their natural surrounds no matter what the weather.

We will also produce two additional flyers each year, being a Christmas and a Summer Newsletter, which will ensure our residents are kept up to date with events happening in the village all year round. The next publication from Moulton Parish Council will be our Christmas Newsletter this December, so if you have anything you would like to include, a Christmas Fair or a Church Service for example, please get in touch – [email protected]

All local groups and organisations have their own ways of communicating with group members and residents. This will continue to be the most up to date way of keeping up with all their news. All groups are welcome to use the parish notice boards to promote their events or share their news (for those residents not on social media).

We shall of course continue to support and promote all our groups activities through the Moulton Scene, our newsletters and via our website, Facebook pages and other social media channels. For all parish council events please visit our website and subscribe to our Facebook pages @parishcouncilmoulton and @moultoncommunitycentre

If you have any queries relating to this change, please do not hesitate to get in touch, and we look forward to continuing with the Scene on a bi-annual basis.

autumn 2019 • moulton scene | 15 GIG IN THE GARDENS Moulton Parish could not have wished for a more successful day, and a big thanks to all those that came along; from those that set up, tidied up, served, performed, spectated and danced the day and night away with us all. In the days prior to the event the weather forecast was looking rather ‘iffy’ and on the day some thought the whole event might be a total washout, but this could not have been further from the truth. The sun battled against the drizzle, and luckily for all that attended, the bright weather won and we all ended up having a happy, sunny day. We have received such great positive feedback and cannot wait to start planning the next Gig in the Gardens. The date is set for 11th July 2020 – put it in your diary NOW!!

As society becomes increasingly risk-averse, we are in danger of suffocating youngsters in rules and regulations. Life is full of challenges and we owe it to our children to equip them with the skills to recognise risks, assess them sensibly and react positively. Basic concepts are learnt in class, but there is no substitute for real experience.

School trips provide a great opportunity for pupils to gain such experience and make a major contribution to the acquisition of knowledge and development of skills. Studies of science, art, history, language and music can all be enhanced outside the classroom whilst sports activities can form the foundation of life-long interests as well as address health agendas. Pupils may feel they know their peers and teachers from day-to-day contact in school, but the experience of being with them on a school trip adds a new dimension, as it raises the whole area of interpersonal skills including leadership, team work, trust and respect.

This summer MSSC ran two trips. A Watersports residential to Le Lac Mimizan in South West France where students were able to do dinghy and catamaran sailing, wind surfing, kayaking and mountain biking. This was a trip that encompassed achievement, personal endeavour, friendship and bonding. Our second trip was a Modern Foreign Language visit to Barcelona. Here students were able use their language skills, experience the history, art, food and culture of another country.

All in all two very successful trips for MSSC students to end the 2018/19 school year on a positive note!

September sees the Women’s Own, Boys’ and Girls’ Brigades, and Toddle Inn start up again with enthusiasm after the summer break. The monthly Healing Services for those who need support have been renamed ‘The Healing Space’ and will take place in the church as before. Our minister, Rev. Stuart Dennis will be on a sabbatical break during the Autumn but the deacons will ensure everything runs as usual. We look forward to welcoming Stuart back, refreshed and energised!

We are, of course, always glad to welcome new faces to our comfortable, informal church.

Moulton Post Office, situated in Yogi Stores on Overstone Road, may be in danger of closing unless the transactions and footfall increase within the next few months. This is a resource much valued by Moulton people for many transactions, including the facility to pay in and withdraw cash. This saves many people from having to get to a bank - not easy for those without their own transport, as our buses having been cut back recently. Please use this efficient and friendly service as much as you can!
