This question is posed every six months when Gstaad Palace’s interior designer, Marina Nickels, starts creating and rebuilding our rooms and suites over a short 12 week period. This off-season a new Deluxe – One Bedroom Suite will be born as a result of assembling a Junior Suite Classic with a Double Small Room. As usual a homely feeling had to be priority when the design process of the first Suite including an exclusive wet bar started. Choosing colours and defining the material is still the easiest part of the actual creation. The hard work is talking to suppliers and to meet the expectation of our guests who have sometimes stayed in the same room for ten or twenty years. This is why the Palace represents a second home to many of our guests. In total four of these new Suites are in the making and will be ready for the first guests with the beginning of our winter season 18 December. • Martin Creed to Unveil New Neon Work 'Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS
Press Release Martin Creed to unveil new neon work ‘Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’ on the façade of the Gstaad Palace Gstaad Palace Palacestrasse 28, 3780 Gstaad 21 December 2020 – 7 March 2021 From the 21 December, a new neon work by acclaimed British artist Martin Creed, ‘Work No. 3485 EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’, will light up the façade of the Gstaad Palace. The installation is organised by Hauser & Wirth and the Gstaad Palace in an ongoing collaboration, installing iconic artworks by artists from the gallery’s roster since 2019. This year’s special public display is made possible with the generous support of Alex Hank. Awarded the Turner Prize in 2001 for ‘Work 227: The lights going on and off’, Creed has become known for hugely varied work, which is by turns uncompromising, entertaining, shocking and beautiful. The work on view in Gstaad is one of Creed’s most well-known installations: the phrase ‘Everything is going to be alright’ has been used by the artist in a series of large-scale neon works since 1999, and has been installed across internationally renowned institutions and buildings, including the façade of the TATE in London, and most recently Braemar Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The phrase draws on the comforting words Creed was offered by a friend: ‘No one can really tell you everything is going to be alright, but despite that, many times in my life I have been very comforted by people saying something like that to me.’ The resulting work has never resonated so poignantly as in the current situation of 2020.

  • Gstaad, Switzerland
GSTAAD, SWITZERLAND Consider living in a vast alpine garden in summer or a glistening fairytale of white wonder in the winter. Gstaad is all that – once described by Sound of Music star Julie Andrews as “the last paradise in a crazy world.” Such sounds still ring true as old wealth given to such romantic notions as horse-drawn carriages clopping down cobbled streets as visitors pass in their furs and finery mix with a more grounded populace of happy-go-lucky youth in ski gear and affordable fashions. They say Gstaad has about 3,000 residents and just as many cows. There are endless alpine walking paths along wildflower vistas that bring Heidi to mind. In winter ski mountains buzz with some 60 ski lifts and cable cars ferry visitors into magnificent heights. Gstaad, in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps, is well known to celebrities and royalty as a protected playground. For decades it was the place to go for well-disguised paparazzi as it was known as a gathering spot for such icons as Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Roman Polanski, Formula1 star Bernie Ecclestone, fashion designer Valentino, Madonna, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek and a cavalcade of Bollywood faves. But the locals maintain, "People go to St. Moritz to be seen, and to Gstaad to enjoy themselves." Location of Gstaad On a map, you will find Gstaad in the southwest region of Switzerland, a two- to three- hour drive from Geneva or Zurich on the boundary between the Bernese Oberland and the Vaud Alpes. Gstaad is a walking village, car-free in its charm and crowded with precious weathered-wood chalets.
