    LINKS Interview with Master Putter Maker Clay Long LINKS: Hello, Clay. I know that you’ve always been a keen golfer going back to your teen years, and played for your college team at Ole Miss. Do you still play quite a bit of golf? Clay Long: Yeah. I’ve been playing quite a bit. I’ve always played at least once a week. And I used to play a little bit of competitive golf, but not so much anymore. But I’ve always worked, so I’ve never been where I just played golf. I was a college player, and a decent college player, and my handicap is like plus- 2. I’m 68 and I shot my age two weeks ago. So, I can still play a little bit. LINKS: Well, I guess so. That’s pretty impressive. CL: But, you know, I loved golf, and to play golf, and to compete in golf, long before I got into the business. But I was very lucky to get into the business in the area that I did because I’ve got a degree in mechanical engineering. So that, and loving to play golf, and then getting into the side of the business where you can take off and mess around and design stuff was perfect for all my interests. LINKS: Had you been involved in making clubs or re-gripping or changing heads or anything like that before you got into the design business? Have you always been a club tinkerer? CL: Oh yes. I learned how to take them apart when I was in high school.

Entries closed on April 24. ENTRIES In 2019, the USGA accepted 9,125 entries, the sixth-highest total in U.S. Open history. The record of 10,127 entries was set in 2014. There were 9,049 entries filed in 2018. LOCAL QUALIFYING Local qualifying, played over 18 holes, was conducted at 109 sites in the U.S. and one in Canada from April 29- May 13. There were 14 local qualifying sites in both California and Florida, the most of any states.

    PGA of America to Conduct 2021 PGA Championship on The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (May 1, 2015) – The PGA of America announced today that it will conduct the 2021 PGA Championship on The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. The 103rd edition of the Championship in August 2021 returns to the renowned Pete Dye-designed oceanfront layout in South Carolina after its first visit in 2012, when Rory McIlroy captured the Wanamaker Trophy by a record-setting margin. The Ocean Course is one of four venues to host each of the PGA of America’s major championships – the Ryder Cup (1991), the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid (2007) and the PGA Championship. The Ocean Course also hosted the 2005 PGA Professional National Championship. “Ever since The Ocean Course was introduced to the world, it has been a supreme test for the greatest players in golf,” said PGA of America President Derek Sprague. “From a down-to-the-last putt thriller of a Ryder Cup in 1991 to Rory McIlroy closing a record-setting performance in the 2012 PGA Championship, there has never been a shortage of thrills on The Ocean Course. We anticipate that tradition of excellence continuing in 2021 at the PGA Championship.” The PGA Championship also is the only one of golf’s four majors to be hosted in South Carolina. The announcement was made with Kiawah Island Golf Resort Chairman Bill Goodwin. “It’s an honor to have the PGA Championship returning to The Ocean Course and Kiawah Island,” said Goodwin.
