We urge you to protect this deduction—a unique and cherished incentive for Americans to invest directly in important community needs. The nonprofit sector plays a central role in the social and economic vitality of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Our organizations educate and keep the citizenry healthy; care for the most vulnerable populations; and preserve the state’s cherished historical, cultural and environmental resources. Nonprofits employ 16.7% of the workforce, or nearly 500,000 Massachusetts residents, and are responsible for $250 billion in annual revenues. Congress codified the strong American tradition of giving back to our communities in the tax code nearly a century ago, when it provided for deductions on charitable contributions in the Revenue Act of 1917.

Past studies have shown that 97-98% of climate scientists who publish in peer-reviewed journals agree with the consensus that climate change is real, happening now, and man-made. Since many politicians seem to disregard the views of such scientific “elites” as a whole, we decided to compare politicians’ views on climate change to those of the climate experts at their alma maters. These politicians clearly valued the expertise of the academics at their schools enough that they chose to (usually) spend tens of thousands of dollars and up to four years of their lives absorbing knowledge from these institutions’ experts. We thought that even if these politicians choose to disregard the consensus of national experts, they might be persuaded by the consensus of the higher education institutions in which they trusted enough to invest great amounts of their time and money. I am writing to express my strong support for Senate 20, referred to as the "Protecting Patients and Health Care Act," and my continued opposition to the United States Department of Health and Human Services' proposed "provider conscience" regulations. The bil was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on November 20,2008. Senate 20 prevents the Secretary of Health and Human Services from finalizing, enforcing, implementing, or taking other action in furtherance of the proposed regulations, which are available at 73 Fed. Joseph Kennedy III Re: End War Without End - Community Leaders’ Letter Dear Senators and Representatives, The shooting down of a Syrian air force jet, following a Tomahawk missile attack on a Syrian airbase, represent a significant escalation of US military activity in the Middle East, but not a dramatic departure from the policies of the last decade and a half. Our country is waging war in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, and Afghanistan, and our troops are deployed in over 150 foreign countries. The result has only been more death, more destruction, more refugees, and more terrorism. Our war without end began with the US invasion of Afghanistan in December 2001, but quickly expanded to the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, and North Africa. Millions of civilians have been killed and displaced in this war and the Middle East faces a refugee crisis of unprecedented proportions. Thousands of young American men and women have been killed and many thousands more injured or traumatized. Economists estimate that this war will cost the American people several trillion dollars and that our children and grandchildren will be paying for it. Congress represents the voice of the people in Washington, DC. It is time for you, as our representatives, to speak for us and to claim your power to choose peace over war.

These figures include six nonvoting Delegates, one each from Guam, Hawaii, the District of Columbia, and American Samoa, and two from the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as one Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico. Of these 366 women, there have been 309 (211 Democrats, 98 Republicans) women elected only to the House of Representatives; 41 (25 Democrats, 16 Republicans) women elected or appointed only to the Senate; and 16 (11 Democrats, 5 Republicans) women who have served in both houses. Part 229), I write once again in support of the changes originally proposed by the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (“Division”). As I wrote in my letters of September 2 and September 30, the Division seeks reasonable modifications to the Final Rule which maintain the intent of the regulations while providing more flexibility to the commercial fishing industry. These modifications are incorporated in this Proposed Rule. I urge you to adopt the Proposed Rule that amends the start date and location of the Massachusetts Restricted Area as expeditiously as possible. The Final Rule’s January 1, 2015 effective date is quickly approaching and will have significant safety and economic implications for Massachusetts’ commercial lobstermen. Historically the holiday months of November through January yield relatively strong lobster landings and are a critical harvesting period for the industry, all while having comparatively low co-occurrence between whales and lobster vessels. Furthermore, the January 1 closure date is during a very unpredictable winter weather period.

    [Date] Governor Charles Baker Massachusetts State House Office of the Governor, Room 280 Boston, Massachusetts 02133 Dear Governor Baker, We, the members of the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates, representing the 15 towns of Barnstable County write to you to express our grave concerns about the degraded Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth. We ask that in your role as chief safety officer of the Commonwealth you communicate with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) the importance of closing Pilgrim as soon as possible to protect the citizens of Cape Cod. In 2015, the NRC downgraded Pilgrim’s performance to one of the three worst nuclear pow- er plants in the country, declaring it one step away from a shutdown. We are aware that En- tergy will be decommissioning Pilgrim in 2019, but, despite a lengthy list of violations and unplanned shut downs, it continues to operate. Over the past several months our concern about a potential radiological disaster at the plant has risen as we regularly learn of its myriad malfunctions. Citizens of Cape Cod seem especially vulnerable to a radiological plume from Pilgrim be- cause there is no evacuation plan for us, instead, according to the Massachusetts Emer- gency Management Agency, we would be told to shelter in place and await “relocation.” In addition to the public health and safety threat the degraded Pilgrim plant poses, there is the threat of a major economic disaster for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. On Cape Cod, tourism and real estate are the major economic engines. Both could be severely im- pacted for years, and house values would plummet should there be a radiological event at Pilgrim.

Niki Tsongas (D) and the defeat last night of Rep. Mike Capuano (D). Additionally, the state will host Senate and Gubernatorial races - both of which are likely to be won by the incumbent. GUBERNATORIAL Incumbent Charlie Baker fended off challenger Scott Lively, winning the primary with 64% of the vote and sealing his bid for a second term. Baker, a former business executive and Harvard graduate, has been an especially popular in a mostly Democratic state. He has maintained a nearly 70% approval rating during his tenure in office, the highest of any governor in the country. The Cooke Political Report ranks this race as "Lean Republican", and one should expect the Baker to cruise to reelection. Jay Gonzalez (D) Jay Gonzalez won the Democratic primary after defeating Bob Massie with 64.4% of the vote. While Massachusetts is a traditionally Democratic state, it frequently votes for Republican governors and Gonzalez is going to face a major uphill battle to compete with Baker's fundraising and name recognition advantages. SENATE Elizabeth Warren will be the Democratic nominee for Senate after running unopposed for the nomination.
