Siaran Media Ruj : RTM(BPR)/SM/JLD.1 (156) SIARAN MEDIA Dokumentari “Rise of The Continents” Tampilkan Hos Iain Stewart di TV1 KUALA LUMPUR, 14 Jun 2016 – Bersama Profesor Iain Stewart mendedahkan bagaimana benua ikonik telah diwujudkan, dan bagaimana keadaan huru-hara masa lalu telah membentuk kehidupan kita hari ini melatari dokumentari bertajuk “Rise of The Continents” mulai 25 Jun ini, setiap Sabtu, pukul 10.00 malam di TV1. “Rise of The Continents” tampil dengan empat episod berbeza bersama hos yang juga ahli geologi dikenali Iain Stewart. Siri ini, berdasarkan analogi bagaimana 250 juta tahun pada masa akan datang, semua benua akan berlanggar antara satu sama lain yang kemudiannya membentuk Pangea baru, dengan Eurasia tepat di tengah-tengahnya. Episod pertama di Afrika mengetengahkan petunjuk seperti mercu tanda yang menakjubkan Afrika, kekayaan mineral dan hidupan liar, Iain Stewart menunjukkan bagaimana benua Afrika telah ditubuhkan dari bangkai ‘supercontinent’ lama yang telah hilang. Antara lain, penciptaan Victoria Falls, lombong berlian Sierra Leone, rangka ikan paus awal dikebumikan di pasir, dan rumput yang kaya dengan nutrien daripada Serengeti Plains. Menyusul episod di Australia pula menunjukkan bagaimana perjalanan menjelajah benua Australia yang telah menjejaskan segala-galanya daripada sejarah Orang Asli dengan perlombongan moden, dan juga evolusi hidupan liar yang unik di Australia. Iain melawat sebuah bandar perlombongan opal dipanggil Coober Pedy untuk mencipta perpecahan Gondwana, dan juga menunjukkan bagaimana pembentukan Australia membawa kepada pembentukan sebuah akuifer bawah tanah yang luas. Episod ini juga menonjolkan tebing Australia Bight yang merupakan peringatan kepada semua bahawa Australia pernah menyertai Antartika. Tidak kurang menariknya episod dimana 200 juta tahun dahulu Utara dan Amerika Selatan telah diukir dari Pangaea, dan menolak ke arah barat sebagai benua pulau berasingan. Episod ini menerangkan bagaimana telah tercipta gunung terpanjang di dunia, Andes, dan bagaimana 300 juta tahun yang lalu New York adalah di tengah-tengah banjaran gunung yang besar.
