MINUTES FROM THE A.G.M.

With Brian Johnston in the chair having opened the envelopes for 2017-2018 Committee Members, it was shown that the majority of standing Committee were not replaced except for one. Our Club Captain Neville Maxwell had announced his resignation, and on reading out the Ballots Brian announced that the club did not have a Club Captain for the upcoming next twelve months. However, it was not long after that and on finding that Margaret Evans would be interested in taking on the Club Captain’s position, Brian then formally asked Margaret if she would accept the vacancy. Margaret having agreed was then welcomed by all of the re-standing Committee members and Club Members.

Presidents Report: Norm thanked everyone for their help and support. Ken Morris was thanked for the work he done. Treasurers Report: Bank account is healthy, with the club going well Notebooks were for sale as well as Sloppy Joes and other Merchandise. Department of Fair Trading paperwork to be posted. Moved: Lynn Farmer Seconded: Don Rumble.

Brian Johnston made a new presentation on the night by handing out Honourable framed certificates. These were made and framed especially to congratulate five of our current members who joined the NRVC Thirty years ago. The certificates presented also had a photo of the owners cars on them. The following members: Wal Williams, Gerald Hide, Brian Jackson, Ron Parlour and Tom Broadbent were taken by surprise and happily accepted their Certificates. Brian also gave out framed certificates to Committee, with jobs well done.

th STROUD BRICK AND PIN THROWING DAY. – Saturday 8 July, 2017 Roving Reporters: Mary Jones and Trish Morris. Roving Photographer: Jennifer Purser.

We started off at 7.30 from Hexham McDonald's with our new Club Captain Marg in the lead and Terry at the tail end. Well, before we got around the first corner Gary and Ruth had car problems so some of the members stayed and helped while the others drove on to Stroud via the M1 then Bucketts Way. Mick and Jenny ended up towing Gary around the corner to the service station to be safe off the road. Gary and Ruth turned up at Stroud some time later as Gary had called the NRMA and they cleaned the points on the car to get going again.

The street parade was very good with a Dr Who Town Crier, a Darlek , Super Hubert, miniature pony’s pulling sulky’s, lots of children and adults dressed up in the theme of back to the future and of course lots of old cars and tractors. After a frosty start it was a beautiful sunny day with 20 Club cars attending. Continuing on from last month’s story Ros finally got the rest of her wall hangings. It made her day. The rare and much sought after certificates were awarded to Ross Skillen, Monica and Bruce Dickson and Barry and Zira Scarr.

I know a guy who’s addicted to brake fluid, but he says he can stop any time!

I changed my iPod’s name to Titanic.

It’s syncing now.

My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were $70!!! Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web.

I was driving this morning when I saw a parked NRMA van. The driver was

sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable. I thought to myself, that guy’s heading for a breakdown!!!

MID WEEK RUN – MACADAMIA NUT FARM – 19TH JULY, 2017

Roving Reporter & Photographer - Collene Kalb.

We met at Maccas at Edgeworth, started off 13 cars, containing 25 people, It was very windy, but sunny weather, and headed off the long way round through Mayfield to , and up to the Macadamia Nut Farm at Medowie. Where Ruth & Gary had organised for us to have a room to ourselves, for Morning Tea, we all elected to have our choice of Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate in a MUG, this came with a scrumptious slice of Orange and Macadamia Cake, with Chocolate sauce. After Many Jokes and a discussion on not going to the Dam for Lunch, as it was way too windy, we elected to by public vote to go to the BULL & BUSH PUB for lunch, so Ruth rang ahead and gave them the heads up to expect us about 12.30pm.

We then had a very interesting tour of the Macadamia Farm, Joe introduced himself as the owner, a very informative talk was given by him. We learnt that there were 4 different varieties of Trees, which produce nuts from April to September, they are then harvested. The Nuts are put into a Crusher to take the husks from around the nuts, they are then thrown into water, where if they sink, they are graded, but if they float, they are no good so are thrown out or mulched. All Macadamia Nuts are from Australia, the ones from Hawaii, come from Australian Trees that were exported to Hawaii from Big Macadamia Nut Farms in Queensland. You will see some of our cars parked under the Macadamia Nut Trees, Now if you want to know more, then you will have to visit and sample the Nuts, great Café that was full, and always open for Morning, Afternoon tea and Lunch. It is a great set up, with a playground for kids, so June had to go on the Slippery Dip, yes, the Kids thought that was funny. A lot of the ladies did not go on the tour, but stayed back swapping yarns at the café, so they are not in the photo. Oh and they have some great products like sauces, butters, Nuts in all varieties, soaps, creams, lots more, chooks & Birds everywhere foraging nuts.

Gary presented Joe on behalf of NRVC, an Appreciation Certificate, to put up on his wall inside the Café. After purchases of goodies we drove to the Bull n Bush for our Lunch, some elected to go home. Now more fun erupted as to the choice of meals, and boy when they arrived, the meals proved to be huge. Some of us had to force ourselves to eat it all, but poor Gary, when his came, which was Chicken Burger, it turned out to be just made for Kids. We all laughed it was a had to be there moment Gary Awarded the Rare & Valuable NRVC Certificate to Andre & Susan Van der Velde for helping-out with the run last month. The next Mid-week run will be on Wednesday 16th August, 2017 Edgeworth Maccas, leaving at 9.30am. Thanks everyone, especially Gary & Ruth another top day. 

BILL AND COLLENE KALB’S MYSTERY RUN rd LOOP-THE-LAKE - Sunday 23 July, 2017

Thirty members started arriving at Edgeworth Macca’s on a cold, slightly windy but sunny day in 19 Cars ready to attack a Mystery Run which Bill and Collene had organised for members attending. Adrian Visser brought along his nephew Alex who was our visitor for the day.

We left Edgeworth at 9.30 am turning left and headed off toward Glendale, Toronto, eventually arriving at Toronto Lyons Park for Morning Tea. Having refreshed ourselves and with the sun warming up to what ended up a lovely day Bill handed out driving instructions and not in convoy, but everyone was given a few minutes start between cars taking off so that we all had to find our own way whilst looking for the answers on our run sheet to be filled out. Bill had informed all of us that if anyone did get lost we would at least be arriving back to where we started for lunch.

Some of the questions were hard, and if there was only the driver in the car this was made for a really interesting drive. Getting lost or knowing where you were going didn’t really make much difference as it was a perfect day to be out and about and enjoying the company of our friends. The drive took us through Wangi Wangi, Morriset, around part of Lake Macquarie on to the eastern part of the Lake, through Lake Munmorah, Swansea, Belmont, Warners Bay heading back to Toronto.
