The Suns have defeated NSW 1- 0 in the final of the Australian Hockey League in Darwin. The win gives the Suns their first championship since 1995. Suns striker Georgie Parker scored the only goal of the match just before half-time. Although under extreme pressure for most the second half the Suns were able to hold on for a well deserved victory. Congratulations to Bianca Greenshields, Jessi Cibich and Sarah Harrison who all took part in the Finals week. Also to Coach Craig Victory, Assistant Coach Mark Victory and Manager Sue Beckmann who no doubt played an integral role in the team’s success. Magpie Update: June10th 2011 Following on from the AHL Championships, Hockey Australia has reselected the Hockeyroos squad and also selected the champions trophy team for 2011. After a successful AHL, 4 SA girls have been announced in the reselected Hockeyroos squad. Port Adelaide’s Bianca Greenshields has been maintained her position in the squad and will be joined by Georgie Parker, Holly Evans and Elise Stacy. Southern Hotshots Update After a disappointing 2010, the OAMPS Southern Hotshots will be looking to have an impact on the 2011 AHL season. The appointment of Nick Lenoir as head coach of the Hotshots is a valuable addition to the young squad. Nick brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, including several years of coaching overseas, and so far has liked what he sees in his charges. "The squad has impressed with fitness levels and the group dynamic early, and as a coaching staff we will look to continue the development of this new culture and direction." The squad is filled with emerging talent, including several members of the Under 21 side that finished 3rd in 2010. Tom Wickham, who was recently added to the Australian Institute of Sport, is the prime example of the raw talent that exists within the group. Nick Lenoir will be joined by assistant coach Tim Kloeden, physio Tim Bass and team manager Luke Adcock. The Hotshots begin their AHL season in Darwin on the 10th of June.Port Adelaide will be represented by Cameron Joyce, Michael Lubcke, Scott Germain and Scott Hughes in Darwin this weekend. Best of luck boys! Fixture Changes Due to Adelaide Unis Pitch not being completed on time there are going to be some changes to the fixtures. Please check rounds 8 to 14 to see if your teams have been affected. Unfortunately there has been more changes to round 9 July 8th 9th & 10th in the junior divisions due to PAC , Adelaide Uni and DHHA not being available that week. Please check your fixtures to see if you are affected. The Metro 6 game for Saturday 30 July has now been moved from Adelaide Uni's ground to a Sunday 31 July at 6:30 at Woodville.
