Waiawa Bridge is also significant as one of Hawaii's longest tee-beam bridges, with distinctive 54' spans, which are unusually long for this type. The bridge constructed over this important crossing at Halawa Stream has been integral to its role as an effective transportation route for both civilian and military traffic served by the highway.
