INBOUND EXCHANGE FACT SHEET

NOMINATIONS PROCEDURE: You may nominate your students using this online form: Exchange Nomination. Contact International ​ ​ ​ ​ Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) team at [email protected] if you need to request a deadline ​ ​ ​ ​ extension.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Information about how to apply: Global Gateway for Exchange Partners. Students must click their home ​ ​ country university to begin creating an account. They will receive a temporary password and then create a permanent password. Finally, students can click the “Apply Now” button on this page to begin an application: Start an Exchange program application. Students must complete all tasks listed there to be ​ ​ formally admitted. Once Augsburg has confirmed admission, there will be a series of post-admission tasks posted in the students’ application portal.

POST ADMISSION PROCEDURE: Once admission is confirmed, Augsburg will send an official letter of admission with a government document, the DS-2019. Students will be instructed to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee and apply for a J-1 exchange visitor visa through the United States Embassy.

Exchange Students will also receive instructions to apply for student housing and a meal plan. The ISSS team will then work with the students’ home school International Coordinator to confirm course selection and registration. The ISSS team will work with the student regarding orientation, airport pickup, what to pack, and any other logistical questions the student may have before traveling to the U.S.

Students should make travel arrangements as early as possible, and no later than one month before the required arrival date.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS ● Full-time student at an institution that has an Exchange Agreement with Augsburg University ● Minimum 1 year of university completed ● Minimum grade point average confirming academic readiness for international study ● English Language Proficiency shown by the following exams and minimum scores: TOEFL: 80, IELTS overall: 6.5, Duolingo English: 105 (taken on or after July 15, 2019), SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 570, or ACT English and Reading: 22

COURSES AND REGISTRATION You may take between 12-19 US Semester Credits. Most courses are four credits each.

Use Course Search to find courses offered by Semester and Department, and use the Course Catalog to ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ find a general overview of courses by major (not all courses are offered every semester). Then work with faculty & staff at your home university and ISSS staff at Augsburg to determine which Augsburg courses might fulfill your degree requirements. When your application has been approved, you will be able to give your first and second choice of courses in the Course Registration task in your online application. ​ ​ ​ ​

HOUSING AND MEALS ● Exchange student meal plans include 15 meals per week in the cafeteria, plus a number of “points” which may be used at any on-campus dining location. More information about Dining Services ​ ● Exchange students share a room with another person, usually in “floor-houses” or “townhouses” in Anderson Hall. AIRPORT PICK UP When you arrive at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport, someone from the ISSS team will meet you and ​ ​ help you move into your campus housing.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION ​ International Student Orientation at Augsburg University is a chance to learn about more resources on campus, get settled before classes start, and build relationships with other international students and the ISSS staff. This two-day immersive experience provides essential information and gives new international students time to acclimate into the Augsburg community and make a successful cultural and academic transition into a new setting.

TRANSCRIPTS Transcripts are sent to a student’s home university 3-5 weeks after final grades have been posted.
