D., Dean of the Graduate College ABSTRACT Metal tetrapyrroles represent a large class of earth-abundant catalysts but are limited to naturally-occurring combinations. Chelatase enzymes are responsible for the catalyzed metal insertion into a specific tetrapyrrole.
