Romanian Political Science Review vol. XXI, no. 1 2021 The end of the Cold War, and the extinction of communism both as an ideology and a practice of government, not only have made possible an unparalleled experiment in building a democratic order in Central and Eastern Europe, but have opened up a most extraordinary intellectual opportunity: to understand, compare and eventually appraise what had previously been neither understandable nor comparable. Studia Politica. Romanian Political Science Review was established in the realization that the problems and concerns of both new and old democracies are beginning to converge. The journal fosters the work of the first generations of Romanian political scientists permeated by a sense of critical engagement with European and American intellectual and political traditions that inspired and explained the modern notions of democracy, pluralism, political liberty, individual freedom, and civil rights. Believing that ideas do matter, the Editors share a common commitment as intellectuals and scholars to try to shed light on the major political problems facing Romania, a country that has recently undergone unprecedented political and social changes. They think of Studia Politica. Romanian Political Science Review as a challenge and a mandate to be involved in scholarly issues of fundamental importance, related not only to the democratization of Romanian polity and politics, to the “great transformation” that is taking place in Central and Eastern Europe, but also to the make-over of the assumptions and prospects of their discipline. They hope to be joined in by those scholars in other countries who feel that the demise of communism calls for a new political science able to reassess the very foundations of democratic ideals and procedures. -

This chapter consi ders how key icons, performances, and spectacles have intersected with narrative reconstructions to mediate collective memories of 9/11, within New York City, throughout the United States, and around the globe. In Cloning Tenvr: The War of Images, 9/11 to the Present, W. J. T. Mitchell starts from this sound historiographical premise: "Every history is really two histories. There is the history of what actually happened, and there is the history of the perception of what happened. The first kind of history focuses on the facts and figures; the second concentrates on the images and words that define the framework within which those facts and figures make sense" (xi). What follows is an examination of that second kind of history: the perceptual frameworks for making sense of 9/11, frameworks forged by New Yorkers at Ground Zero, Americans removed from the attacks, and cultural creators and commentators from abroad. -

Brandon Associate Professor [email protected] Department of Theatre and Speech Hillsdale College Hillsdale, MI ABSTRACT In prominent French social philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky’s Hypermodern Times (2005), the author asserts that the world has entered the period of hypermodernity, a time where the primary concepts of modernity are taken to their extreme conclusions. The conditions Lipovetsky described were already manifesting in a number of post-Soviet Russian films. In the tradition of Slavoj Zizek’s Enjoy Your Symptom (1992), this essay utilizes a number of post-Soviet Russian films to explicate Lipovetsky’s philosophy, while also using Lipovetsky’s ideas to explicate the films. -

Examining Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis, this essay develops an alternative approach to the politics of literature that attends to the style and form of the novel. The form and style of Cosmopolis emphasize the novel’s own dissonance with the world it criticizes; they moreover suggest a politics of poetic worldmaking intent on eliciting collective agency over the commonness of language. -
Virtual Space Or Real Life?
Today’s “the most sexy thing”: virtual space or real life? ALEXANDRA DZIUBA - Odessa National Polytechnic University (ONPU) ABSTRACT The issues of Reality and Simulation of Reality are highlighted in this article. The nature of Desire is also discussed as a fundamental in contemporary culture and media environments. Special attention has been paid to advertising, as a form of creating desire and simulations of reality which stimulate growing frustrations in society. Online space is also been viewed as a new trend in the simulation of life and a faked advertising reality. In the article I attempt to compare both of these "worlds" – simulated by culture and virtualised by media. KEYWORDS Reality, simulation, media, advertising, sex, desire. Introduction A key issue in contemporary media and cultural studies is the question of what is Reality. Throughout history, humans were trying to comprehend their own existence and validity based on the reality of their own body and on the reality of everyday life. After a while, the human body started to lose its status as a bastion of reality. It happened with the help of growing interests in different kinds of “virtual” worlds, as well as the expansion of media influence. So, with rapid cultural transformations of the present the problem of definition of reality perhaps becomes the most difficult question. In this article I would like to discuss the general issues of Reality and simulations, which prevail in our society. Also, issues about the nature of desire and simulations of desires are considered as one of the main topics of this work. -

Art makes us pay atten- tion to it by presenting the familiar in a new and unfamiliar context and unsettles our presup- positions and reconceptualizes our way of thinking. I argue that by themselves, the concept of veiling and the concept of fashion are very familiar concepts to Indonesians, but that the practice of combining these two ideas brings something unfamiliar to that society. This new practice reveals a way of Being that combines religious piety with our current, late- modern, consumer society. The combination of fashion and veiling for piety discloses, in the Heideg- gerian sense, a new “world.” I begin by explicating the Heideggerian interpretation of the nature of art by looking at the key concepts that make a work of art work. First, art can only disclose new “worlds” when the new world is in intimate and essential tension with “earth” and when this tension is resolved by preservers who take up and actualize the new way of Being so that a people can be placed on a new path together, as a community. -

© 2018 JETIR March 2018, Volume 5, Issue 3 www.jetir.org (ISSN-2349-5162) DEATH - THE ETERNAL TRUTH OF LIFE The „DEATH‟ that comes from the German word „DEAD‟ which means tot, while the word „kill‟ is toten, which literally means to make dead. Likewise in Dutch ,‟DEAD‟ is dood and “kill” is doden. In Swedish, “DEAD” is dod and „Kill‟ is doda. In English the same process resulted in the word “DEADEN”, where the suffix “EN” means “to cause to be”. We all know that the things which has life is going to be dead in future anytime any moment. So, the sentence we know popularly that “Man is mortal”. The sources of life comes into human body when he/she is in the womb of mother. The active meeting of sperm and eggs, it create a new life in the woman‟s overy, and the woman carried the foetus with 10 months and ten days to given birth of a new born baby . When the baby comes out from the pathway of the vagina of his/her mother, then his/her first cry is depicted that the new born baby is starting to adjustment of of the newly changing environment . For that very first day, the baby‟s survivation is rairtained by his/her primary environment. But the tendency of death is started also. In any time of any space the human baby have to accept death. Not only in the case of human being, but the animals, trees, species, reptailes has also the probability of death. The above mentioned live behind are also survival for the fittest. -

G. Ballard’s contention, that ‘the act of intercourse is now always a model for something else,’ to show that Don DeLillo uses a particular sexual, cultural economy of adultery, understood in its many loaded cultural and literary contexts, as a model for semantic reproduction. I contend that DeLillo’s fiction evinces a promiscuous model of language that structurally reflects the myth of the adulterous triangle. The thesis makes a significant intervention into DeLillo scholarship by challenging Paul Maltby’s suggestion that DeLillo’s linguistic model is Romantic and pure. My analysis of the narrative operations of adultery in his work reveals the alternative promiscuous model. I discuss ten DeLillo novels and one play – Americana, Players, The Names, White Noise, Libra, Mao II, Underworld, the play Valparaiso, The Body Artist, Cosmopolis, and the pseudonymous Amazons – that feature adultery narratives. -

Comparative Evolutionary Thanatology of Grief, with Special Reference to Nonhuman Primates James R. Anderson Kyoto University Abstract: The impact of the dead on the living is considered from an evolutionary comparative perspective. After a brief review of young children’s developing understanding of the concept of death, the interest of looking at how other species respond to dying and dead individuals is introduced. Solutions to managing dead individuals in social insect communities are described, highlighting evolutionarily ancient, effective behavioral mechanisms that most likely function with no emotional component. I then review examples of responses to dying and dead individuals in nonhuman primates, with particular reference to continued transport and caretaking of dead infants, responses to traumatic deaths in wild populations of monkeys and apes, and a detailed case report of the peaceful death of an old female chimpanzee surrounded by members of her group. The emotional correlates of primates’ reactions to bereavement are discussed, and some suggested evolutionarily shared responses to the dead are proposed. Key words: thanatology, death, dying, emotions, social insects, nonhuman primates, chimpanzees Thanatology can be broadly defined as the study of death and dying, and researchers from a wide range of disciplines are thanatologists. Among others, studies in medicine, biology, psychology, anthropology, palaeontology, sociology and philosophy all contribute new knowledge about the antecedents, causes, and consequences of death (e.g. Exley 2004; Haldane 2007; Klarsfeld et al. 2003; Kübler-Ross 1969; Pettitt 2011; Powner et al. 1996). Concerning people’s understanding of death, psychologists generally agree that the typical human adult’s concept of death comprises at least four sub-concepts or “components” (Speece 1995).
