PROLOGUE: “THE OBJECTIVE IS TO PROVIDE WATER TO EVERY SINGLE HUMAN IN THAT AREA OF 15 VILLAGES”. WATER is one of the very basic needs of life. Providing water is very essential to everyone as otherwise life becomes hell. People can live without everything except air and water. While doing community service in and around Karjat Taluka in Raigad, Maharashtra district, it has come to light that almost around 25 TRIBAL villages do not have water and had to fetch them from long distances. This being very SUPPLY OF WATER TO TRIBAL AREAS-MANAGEMENT REPORT-– Page 5 A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER AEGIS OF WWTI – NGO DEDICATED TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED & MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN __________________________________________________________________________________ important and essential basic needs of the people, it was decided to bring this to the notice of the Government so that this issue is solved once and for all AND IMMEDIATELY. Providing water will lead to all round economic activity and prosperity of the people living in these villages like rearing of animals like cow and sheep and of agricultural activity. Therefore on demand from almost 15 villages, the project is put forth to the Government for its early implementation BEFORE THE ADVENT OF SUMMER when the scarcity is total. It is hoped that the water resources and sector development [water supply department [WSD] would take up the SUPPLY OF WATER TO TRIBAL AREAS-MANAGEMENT REPORT-– Page 6 A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER AEGIS OF WWTI – NGO DEDICATED TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED & MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN __________________________________________________________________________________ matter forthwith along with the help of other departments. ************* 3. SOURCE OF WATER: The idea arose from the fact that water from Khopoli TATA, power plant, called as “PEJ” river, is flowing into the Arabian Sea without being well utilized. Despite having water it is very sad that people do not have the same for their living needs. Everyone is aware that TATA has a HYDRO POWER PLANT at Khopoli. It is also known that TATA’s accumulate water in dams at Lonavala and use the same to bring it down through pipelines to drop down the mountain SUPPLY OF WATER TO TRIBAL AREAS-MANAGEMENT REPORT-– Page 7 A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER AEGIS OF WWTI – NGO DEDICATED TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED & MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN __________________________________________________________________________________ to harness electricity. Such used water flows down the plain from Khopoli and the river is named as “PEJ”. This river is almost perennial as it flows throughout the year. This water source is hardly about 14 Kms from the immediate needy village ANANDWADI and around 45 Kms to the end of the last village, Ambivili (Peth Phata), on the one side and Jambhulwadi on the other. TECHNICAL EVALUATION: Technical evaluation of the project is that it is easily feasible to transport by means of pipelines. The water is to be pumped into the water pipelines at the source of water. Pump to SUPPLY OF WATER TO TRIBAL AREAS-MANAGEMENT REPORT-– Page 9 A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER AEGIS OF WWTI – NGO DEDICATED TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED & MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN __________________________________________________________________________________ be housed in a pump house and caretakers appointed to not only operate the same for distribution of water at periodic intervals but also for maintenance of the same. The pipelines laid along the road [in order to avoid delays by way of permission from either the forest department or the private land lords] would fetch the water into a big tank of over 2 lakh liters and from there pipelines would again carry the water to the smaller tanks of around 10000 liters in each of these villages through pumping. From her pipelines will be laid for each of the houses in the respective villages. This is also to stop misuse / or safety of the pump installed. This can also generate employment at various levels such as: SUPPLY OF WATER TO TRIBAL AREAS-MANAGEMENT REPORT-– Page 10 A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER AEGIS OF WWTI – NGO DEDICATED TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED & MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN __________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Maintenance and operation of the pump and pump house. 2. Water billing and collection work 3. Distribution of water at village levels 4. Maintenance of the main and internal pipe lines and storage tanks [including cleaning them periodically] 5. Employment in agricultural production. Most importantly this will give one of the most important thing and basic need in life for survival i.e. water. This is in fact a basic responsibility of the Government both at the State level and as well at the local levels. SUPPLY OF WATER TO TRIBAL AREAS-MANAGEMENT REPORT-– Page 11 A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER AEGIS OF WWTI – NGO DEDICATED TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED & MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN __________________________________________________________________________________ When people are claiming that they are forced to drink gutter water to quest their thirst, it is very sad that we don’t resolve their issues. The enclosed LATEST AAJ TAK TV news report would throw enough light on the villager’s plight. The LINK IS PROVIDED BELOW: https://youtu.be/VTkUZV2pOJ0 By giving this, the Government not only would provide the all important water for all purposes including drinking, it will also boost self employment in agriculture, raring of useful animals such as cows, goats, chickens etc and overall improvement in the wealth of the people and the nation. SUPPLY OF WATER TO TRIBAL AREAS-MANAGEMENT REPORT-– Page 12 A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER AEGIS OF WWTI – NGO DEDICATED TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED & MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN __________________________________________________________________________________ TO CONCLUDE: The Maharashtra Government is requested to kindly initiate this project for all the above reasons and for the benefit of these TRIBAL PEOPLE who have been struggling for water for Drinking and other use including agriculture. By providing this important ingredient to these people you will be doing a great and important essential service. THANKS TO CONTRIBUTORS: I would like to thank many people who have been with me and helping and aiding me in making this project. The success of this, of SUPPLY OF WATER TO TRIBAL AREAS-MANAGEMENT REPORT-– Page 13 A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT UNDER AEGIS OF WWTI – NGO DEDICATED TO DIFFERENTLY ABLED & MENTALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN __________________________________________________________________________________ course, is in the hands of the Maharashtra Government.
