Vol. 27, No. 5 (2010) 056201 Frequency Response of the Sample Vibration Mode in Scanning Probe Acoustic Microscope * ZHAO Ya-Jun(ë亚军), CHENG Qian(§0), QIAN Meng-Lu(a梦è)** Institute of Acoustics, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092 (Received 22 December 2009) Based on the interaction mechanism between tip and sample in the contact mode of a scanning probe acoustic microscope (SPAM), an active mass of the sample is introduced in the mass-spring model. The tip motion and frequency response of the sample vibration mode in the SPAM are calculated by the Lagrange equation with dissipation function. For the silicon tip and glass assemblage in the SPAM the frequency response is simulated and it is in agreement with the experimental result. The living myoblast cells on the glass slide are imaged at resonance frequencies of the SPAM system, which are 20 kHz, 30 kHz and 120 kHz. It is shown that good contrast of SPAM images could be obtained when the system is operated at the resonance frequencies of the system in high and low-frequency regions. PACS: 62. 30. +d, 68. 37. Welcome to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms Podcast. This is episode 126. Last time, we left off with the end of Zhuge Liang’s second unsuccessful campaign to conquer the kingdom of Wei. That was in the winter of the year 228. While Zhuge Liang regrouped at his base in Hanzhong, the Wei supreme commander Cao Zhen was forced to return to his capital to recover from an illness. So things were temporarily quiet on the Shu and Wei borders. But something big was stirring in the southeast, in the kingdom of Wu. Word of Zhuge Liang’s second expedition soon reached Wu. Hearing that Cao Zhen had once again suffered casualties, the officials of Wu all asked their lord Sun Quan to launch their own Northern campaign to conquer the Heartlands, but Sun Quan wasn’t so sure. Welcome to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms Podcast. This is episode 124. Last time, while the borders between Shu and Wei were temporarily quiet, the kingdom of Wu was up to some shenanigans. One of Wu’s governors, a man named Zhou (1) Fang (1), tricked the Wei commander Cao Xiu into thinking that he was going to surrender. Convinced by Zhou Fang’s dramatic act of cutting off his own hair as an oath of loyalty, Cao Xiu decided to march deep into Wu territory. But the Wei general Jia (3) Kui (2) tried to get him to see the painfully obvious: that this smelled like a trap. All this loyal advice, however, just made Cao Xiu angry at Jia Kui. “I am about to march my army forward. How dare you say such things to demoralize my troops?!” he scolded Jia Kui and ordered the guards to take him outside for execution. The other officers quickly intervened, telling Cao Xiu that it would hurt the army’s morale even more if he executed a top general before marching out. Cao Xiu relented, but he stripped Jia Kui of his command and took away his troops. Cao Xiu then left Jia Kui back at camp while he personally led an army to take the city of Dongguan (1,1). Word of this development soon reached the ears of Zhou Fang, and he was delighted. “If Cao Xiu had listened to Jia Kui, then it would have been heaven’s will that Dongwu should fall,” he said. “But now, it is heaven’s will that I shall succeed!” Zhou Fang then sent word of this to the top Dongwu commander, Lu (4) Xun (4). -

OFFICIAL THREE KINGDOMS REDUX COMPENDIUM This document contains the complete list of generals and state enhancements in the Three Kingdoms Redux board game. Each entry in this list contains the card text for each card, and rulings/clarifications regarding any interactions each card has with other cards. New rulings/clarifications will be added when required. Overarching Principle 1: Benefits due to activation of general and/or state enhancement cards pertaining to the same action spaces are additive and the sequence of activation of benefits is determined by the player, where applicable. Example 1: Shu takes the “demand tribute action” with Wei Yan, and has previously constructed the Imperial Palace state enhancement. Wei Yan, Clout – After Wei Yan takes the “demand tribute action”, he receives 1 additional untrained army, as well as 1 weapon of his choice for each border location occupied by Shu (maximum 2 weapons). Imperial Palace – After you take the “demand tribute action”, you receive 1 additional gold and 1 additional rice. Shu chooses to receive 1 gold and 1 rice when taking the “demand tribute action”. Wei Yan’s skill is activated and Shu receives 1 additional untrained army and 1 weapon of his choice for each border location occupied by Shu (up to a maximum of 2). Shu also receives 1 additional gold and rice due to the activation of Imperial Palace. Example 2: Wu has previously constructed the Garrison state enhancement. It takes the “win popular support action” with Lu Meng. Lu Meng, Potential – After Lu Meng takes the “win popular support action”, he receives 1 untrained army or 1 weapon of his choice. -
