Power play 1 - 1 (100%) Penalty Killing 0 - 3 (100%) Philadelphia Flyers: Media Notes

TONIGHT’S GAME The Flyers start off a five-game homestand tonight as they welcome in the Toronto Maple Leafs in their 30th game of the season and 15th at home. The Flyers are 11-11-7 on the year after a 4-1 win over Vancouver on the road last Thursday night. The Flyers have won three in a row following a 10-game winless streak (0-5-5) and tonight are looking to pick up their first win at home since November 9 vs. Chicago. A win tonight would mark the team’s first four-game winning streak since March 26-April 1 of last season, and a victory in regulation would give the Flyers their first four-game regulation winning streak since Feb. 1-8, 2014. This game starts off a stretch of seven games in 12 days for the Flyers before the Christmas break. This is the Flyers’ second five-game homestand of the season, with the first having come from Oct. 14-24, and is their last such arrangement of the season. The club has a four-game homestand to start off 2018 and a three-game stand in mid-March; other than those, the Flyers won’t play more than two games in a row at home for the rest of the season. Next up for the Flyers after this game is Buffalo, which visits on Thursday night.

LAST MEETING Saturday, October 28, 2017 - Flyers 4, Toronto 2 at Air Canada Centre: The Flyers rebounded from a 1-0 deficit to take a 3-1 lead and skated to a 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs. Toronto opened the scoring just over nine minutes into the contest on a goal by Nazem Kadri, which the Flyers answered with a tally from Brandon Manning just over three minutes later. With 1:22 remaining in the frame, Jake Voracek slipped a puck through the pads of Fredrik Andersen to give the Flyers a 2-1 advantage after one period. Valtteri Filppula made it 3-1 with a power play goal 11:03 into the second; Toronto answered with another goal from Kadri 1:59 later, but Claude Giroux closed out the scoring 2:18 after that, as the teams played out a scoreless third period. Brian Elliott took the win with 28 saves, while Andersen turned away 26. Stars of the Game: 1 – Jake Voracek; 2- Brandon Manning; 3 – Nazem Kadri.

The Flyers are 3-3-1 in their last seven games against Toronto here in Philadelphia, but are 10-4-1 overall in the last 15 meetings here dating back to the 2008-09 season.

NOTES OF THE NIGHT The Flyers won all three games in regulation on last week’s road trip, marking the first time since January of 2008 that they won three games in a row in regulation on the same trip. They often have a single trip against three or more of the Western Canadian teams (WPG, CGY, EDM, VAN) on their schedule each season; the last time they’d swept such a trip was in December of 2013 with shootout wins over EDM and VAN and a reg. win over CGY. The last time they’d swept a trip with three regulation wins was Dec. 27-31, 1996, beating EDM, CGY and VAN on a 4-0-1 trip that continued with a win in San Jose and a tie in Colorado. That trip was part of an overall 17-game unbeaten streak (14-0-3) from 11/30/96 through 1/7/97 that ranks fourth in franchise history and is still the team’s longest unbeaten streak since the 35-game streak in 1979-80.

The Flyers have not allowed a power play goal in four straight, while giving up just two power plays in each of those four games. Before this run, the Flyers had taken two or fewer minors in just four of the first 25 games of the season. Immediately prior to this group of games, the Flyers had allowed a power play goal in seven consecutive games and had given up at least three shorthanded situations in each one, including five or more in five of those seven contests.

The Flyers are 4-for-13 (30.8 pct) on the power play during the three-game winning streak, with at least one PPG in all three contests. The team’s power play, which was 11-for-56 (19.6 pct) in the first 16 games of the year through November 9, tallied just four times (4- for-30, 13.3 pct) in the entire 10-game winless streak.

The Flyers continue to have the fewest 5-v-5 goals against in the league this season with 43, one fewer than Los Angeles and three fewer than St. Louis.

The Flyers are 52.5 pct on faceoffs as a team this year, which is the fourth-best team percentage in the league, just behind Carolina and Dallas. The Flyers have been 50 percent or better in 20 of their 29 games this season.

Brian Elliott was named the NHL’s 3rd Star of the Week after going 3-0-0 last week with a 1.67 GAA and .954 sv%. Elliott earned his 200th career win in Vancouver on Thursday.

Michael Raffl became the eighth player in team history to record the game-winning goal in three consecutive games when he did so for all three games on the trip. The last Flyer to accomplish the feat was Brayden Schenn in December of last season. Raffl did not score until the 23rd game of the season, but now has five goals in his last eight games. Only two players in NHL history have picked up GWGs in four or more consecutive games – Newsy Lalonde (5) for MTL in 1921 and Daniel Alfredsson (4) for OTT in 2007.

Ivan Provorov is averaging 24:57 of ice time on the season, which ranks 16th in the league. He has played more this season than any other NHL player under the age of 22 and he ranks fourth in the league among all players age 26 or younger – only Oliver Ekman- Larsson, Victor Hedman and Seth Jones are ahead of him in that group. Provorov has appeared in all 111 games where he’s been on the Flyers’ roster since the start of last season.

Robert Hagg ranks fourth in the NHL with 96 hits. At 3.31 hits per game, he currently ranks seventh in hits per game by a rookie (min. 25 GP) in the entire NHL since the stat began to be tracked in 1997. The last rookie to complete a season with a hits-per-game rate higher than Hagg’s current rate was Radko Gudas, who recorded 273 hits over 73 games (3.7 per game) with Tampa Bay in 2013-14.

Entering Monday’s games, Jakub Voracek was tied for the NHL lead with 30 assists. Voracek has had four three-assist games this season, including two of the last three; he has seven assists in the last three games and at least one point in nine of his last 11, with three goals and 13 assists for 16 points in that span. With 37 points through 29 games, Voracek is currently on a 105-point pace, which if continued would make him only the ninth 100-point scorer in team history and the first since Eric Lindros in 1995-96.

Claude Giroux has 12 goals and 20 assists on the season. He has three goals and eight assists for 11 points in the last nine games. His current scoring pace of just over 90 points would equal the second-best season of his career.

Sean Couturier enters the game with 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points, leaving him one goal away from tying his career high for an entire season. Couturier has points in seven of the last 11 games, posting four goals and five assists in that span.
