Theology of the New Evangelization

Course Description: This class is designed to help parish and diocesan leaders in their ministry of evangelization by providing formation, strategies, and resources that will help them to; engage more intently to those who are faithful and in need of renewal; re-engage those who are baptized but have lost a living sense of the faith in their daily lives; and reach out to those who have never have heard the proclaimed.

February 4: introduction, Initial points of the appropriation of Jesus as good news: Jesus as a prophet, as a teacher, as a healer, and as savior or liberator.

 The book, A Brief History of Vatican II, has to be read by the students and do a report based on question given by the instructor.

February 11: The Beatitudes: Jesus the man of the Beatitudes.

February 18: Discipleship: The Master that is choosing his followers Jn 15:16.

February 25: The meaning of Christian Brotherhood part I

March 4: The meaning of Christian Brotherhood part II

March 11: Christian anthropology: Necessity for recognition and identity (Communion in Ecclesia), Searching for the Truth or meaning (Martiria or Didascalia), Necessity of no obligation (Liturgia) and Necessity of self-given life (Diaconia in Ecclesia).

March 18: Evangelization in the Vatican II, Evangelization in the Evangelii Nuntiandi of Paul VI, New Evangelization in John Paul II Papacy.

 Due day to turn in the report of the book: A Brief History of Vatican II.

March 25: Culture, cultures, and inculturation. Analsys of the book Clashing Symbols: An Introduction to Faith and Culture by Michael P Gallagher, New Evangelization in Benedict XVI papacy.

 The Evangelli Gaudium, has to be read by the students and do a report based on question given by the instructor.

April 1: Analysis of the book. Divine Renovation: Bring Your Parish from Maintenance to Mission by James Mallon Pastoral.

April 8: Pastoral Conversion in Francis Papacy and the Evangelii Gaudium part I April 15: Pastoral Conversion in Francis Papacy and the Evangelii Gaudium Part II April 22: New methods of Evangelization, why and how to evangelize, and the word of God and the Church April 29: Liturgy and Evangelization May 6: Faith formation May 13: Analysis of the book Making Missionary Disciples by Curtis Martin.

 Due day to turn in the report of the apostolic exhortation Evangelli Gaudium.  Final Exam.

Course Assessment:

Students will be evaluated according to the following criterion: Attendance, participation and completion of reading assignments–30%. Book reports 30%. Final Exam–40%.
