SAFER AT HOME In Select Theaters, VOD & Digital on February 26, 2021 DIRECTED BY Will Wernick WRITTEN BY Will Wernick, Lia Bozonelis PRODUCED BY Will Wernick, John Ierardi, Bo Youngblood, Lia Bozonelis (Co-Producer), Jason Phillips (Co-Producer) STARRING Jocelyn Hudon, Emma Lahana, Alisa Allapach, Adwin Brown, Dan J. Johnson, Michael Kupisk, Daniel Robaire RUN TIME: 82 mins DISTRIBUTED BY: Vertical Entertainment For additional information please contact: LA Daniel Coffey – [email protected] Emily Maroon – [email protected] NY Susan Engel – [email protected] Danielle Borelli – [email protected] ABOUT THE FILM Synopsis Two years into the pandemic, a group of friends throw an online party with a night of games, drinking and drugs. After taking an ecstasy pill, things go terribly wrong and the safety of their home becomes more terrifying than the raging chaos outside. Director’s Statement Making Safer at Home was challenging. Not just because of the technical hurdles the pandemic mandated, but because of the strange new features life had taken on in those early months of the pandemic. I found myself having unusual conversations, and realizations about myself and friends — things that only this type of stress could bring out. I noticed people making major, sometimes life changing decisions, quickly. Brake-ups, pregnancies, divorces, fights-- this instigated them all. Almost everyone I knew was caught in an indefinite cycle of every day feeling the same. And then we started working on this film. Safer at Home plays out essentially in real time, and shows what a long period of lockdown could do to a group of friends. -

Monday, May 24, 2021 | No. 169 When Star Wars opened May 25, 1977 no one but Steven Spielberg thought it would be a hit. George Lucas had been turned down by Universal, United Artists and Disney before pitching 20th Century Fox his sci-fi epic inspired by 1930's serials like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, the 1966 TV series Star Trek and Frank Herbert's 1965 novel Dune. Fox creative affairs chief Alan Ladd, Jr. greenlighted SW, but Fox's distribution arm never considered it a likely hit. Fox marketers wanted to change the title because moviegoers might think Star Wars was about the Vietnam War or, perhaps, superstars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's divorce. When Lucas screened a rough cut for some director pals, they weren't impressed. Brian De Palma reportedly called it the "worst movie" ever made. Spielberg, however, predicted SW would be "the biggest movie of all time." Lucas thought SW was doomed and skipped its premiere to vacation with Spielberg in Hawaii where they heard SW was a boxoffice phenomenon and then came up with a new project to do together -- Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), the first Indiana Jones blockbuster. Exhibitors were reluctant to book SW, thinking only kids and sci-fi buffs would buy tickets, so it opened at just 32 theatres. Two days later, it was in 43 theatres and a week later in 157. It peaked in mid-August at 1,096, a very wide run then. Produced for $11 million, its original release did $461 million domestically and $196 million abroad – huge numbers at Theatrical Poster for Star Wars, the time. -

Po úvodním přehledu všech sto šestnácti v kinodistribuci nasazených filmů (pokud není uvedeno jinak, jde o dlouhometrážní díla) následuje hlavní část, abecedně seřazený soupis snímků v podobě hesel s filmografickými, technickými, produkčními a distribučními údaji a s informativními texty. -

Monday, April 26, 2021 | No. 165 One of the things moviegoers like most about going to theatres is seeing films on the Big Screen, "the way they were meant to be seen." What people don't realize is that when films started in the mid-1890s, there were neither screens nor projectors. The very short films of that era were meant to be seen individually by looking into peep show machines in arcades. Those Kinetoscope devices were one of many inventions from Thomas Edison's factory in West Orange, NJ. Since Edison was monetizing his Kinetoscopes quite well, he had no interest in developing a machine to project film images on walls. Others, however, saw a big future in showing films to groups of people. Peep show owners, in fact, were very vocal in pressing Edison to devise a Film projection to large audiences was much more way to show life size images on arcade walls. This led to the Vitascope profitable than viewing through individual kiosks, since projection system, developed by Washington, DC inventor Thomas Armat, fewer machines were needed in proportion to the but then marketed by Edison's organization as if it were his own invention. number of viewers - Click to Play The first public Vitascope screening took place April 23, 1896 at Koster & Biel's Music Hall, a vaudeville house in New York's Herald Square at 34th Street near Broadway, the site today of Macy's. It would have premiered three days earlier, but it took longer than expected to install the machinery. That first night audience was dazzled by film images projected on a 20 foot canvas screen set within a gilded frame. -
