Governor Paul Cellucci appointed Swift as Director of the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation in 1997. Swift was elected Lieutenant Governor in 1998 and became Governor on April 10, 2001, when Cellucci resigned to become the U.S. Ambassador to Canada. From 2003-2006, Swift was a General Partner at Arcadia Partners, the leading venture capital firm focused exclusively on the education industry. From 2011 through 2017, she was CEO of Middlebury Interactive Languages. Swift currently serves as the Executive Chair of the Board of Ultimate Medical Academy, a nationally accredited nonprofit healthcare educational institution headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
